Operation Ivy: Classic or Dud?

I barely remember what they sounded like, but the album on Lookout mostly bored me to death. "Unity" and "Sound System" were pretty good, as was the first Suicide Machines album, where they just ripped off the good parts of OpIvy.

Destroy: that fucking song about jumping in bushes, I can't remember what its called. (just remembered: Hedgecore. Destroy Hedgecore.)

They did have lots of dumb songs, inspired horrible bands, and losers wear their t-shirt, but damned if I don't still have a soft spot for them.

wow this was my favorite band in 9th grade. i dont think i listened to anything else for about two and a half months. and i havent returned since.

I have been listening to Op Ivy lately which is something I haven't done since H.S. when I pretty much listened to them every single morning on the bus for my entire senior year. I think it still holds up for what it was and it's good spring/summer listening. <3

i like op ivy, but man o man, i was irritated in high school by the neverending parade of op ivy t-shirts. in mid-90s southern california they were standard issue. that and bad religion t-shirts. not sure if the people who wore them even owned the albums.

hahaha. First band shirt I ever bought and yeah, that was in the mid-90s but on LI. In my girls catholic HS though I was the only one.

yeah i think it was a weird regional phenomenon ... like at some point kids graduated from offspring/green day shirts to op ivy and bad religion. and then maybe pennywise/NOFX. and then sublime/bob marley.

Classic, and I agree with the folks upthread saying they fit almost perfectly when you're in your mid-teens. Prone to digging out the odd song during fits of nostalgia still.

op ivy is a wonderful band, revisiting and feeling enriched as a former angsty teen who needed to hear music like this

everyone who shit on op ivy in this thread are a jerk and can't remember what it's like to feel like you belong as a stupid high school kid who was in band (so ska is what you thought was cool)
