Did D-train ever do any music videos

D-train was that funk band from the early 80's

Dontrelle was rookie of the year last year, had a great april but has shown a more human side come May (already his ERA is above 5).

D-Train actually was a football player before a composer. His music was some of the best early 80s electronic funk(but not electro-funk!) You're the One For Me was a big hit and is listed on a 1982 Hacienda chart along with New Order, ABC, Patrice Rushen and other New York and UK club acts. Keep On and Walk on By were also hits. Massive, beautiful stuff, don' t know if there was ever a video.

dtrain was singer james williams and keyboard whiz/arranger/producer hubert eaves. they co-wrote most of the material. williams was built like a football player. he must've sung in church, too.
Prelude was a fairly low-budget label so I doubt there's a D Train video. Maybe for something later, like "Music."

"D-Train's biggest U.S. hit was the BilIboard R & B Top 5 single 'Something's On Your Mind' in 1983."

That's sort of unexpected... guess it was a smooth AM-radio-worthy jam.

I realy like "D" Train 's music. There was this one particular hit song that I don't know the name of but it was released around 1984 or 85 and it was a slow jam that he and a woman sang as a duet. Do you know the name of it? One of the hooks says: "Oh how I love you girl, you are my life and my world. If you know the name please let me know it so that I can purchase the correct album by the group.

I got this compilation of D-Train singles, and I'm really loving it; I was only familiar with "You're the One for Me" and "Music" before. Seems like D-Train had mostly just one formula for their singles ("Keep Giving Me Love" even uses the same distinct synth sound as "You're the One for Me"), but it's a dope formula and their songwriting is strong, so I don't mind. "You're the One for Me" is the pretty much the ultimate boogie tune, in my opinion... That sublime synth melody and the B chorus especially are pure dancefloor manna. It was also one of the first boogie tunes to be released, or am I wrong?

Are any of the actual D-Train albums worth checking out beyond what's on the comp? What about James Williams' solo albums? And what happened to Hubert Eaves after D-Train disbanded?

Btw, IMO this Ben Liebrand edit of the dub and vocal versions of "You're the One for Me" is even better than the official 12" version:

No D-Train fans in here? This thread is kinda sad in its shortness.

Not sure what Eaves is doing, but he emailed me a couple times a few years back about albums he was on (loads of Mtume/Lucas-associated stuff).

I have the first D-Train album called You're The One For Me which is brilliant all the way through.

Not sure which version of the title track you have on that compilation Tuomas but the album version has this slow introduction and seriously when it kicks in about 40 seconds it's one of my favourite bits in music I can think of.

I should track down some of the other albums at some point.

The album version of "You're the One for Me" is probably a bit different from the 12" version on the comp, or at least it's shorter.

I'll probably try to get the first album next, looks like the CD reissue has some interesting bonus tracks, including "D-Train Dub", which based on a Youtube listen sounds very cool.

I don't know a ton of their stuff -- discovered them years ago thanks to Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani talking them up, and have bought a few bits and bobs here and there. Last year I found "Keep On" at a flea market, which I adore -- the keys and chord changes are just unbelievable.

you could delete all music from the 80s and just keep D Train and things still would be good
