I like the way they are all sung. They don't really look so hot out of context. But whuddyagonnado?
1) From Creeque Alley by The Mamas & The Papas ( one of the longest origin-of-a-band songs i've ever heard. it does go on so. but its nice to know that Cass ditched Swarthmore to become a rocker.)
"and no one's gettin' fat except Mama Cass".
2) From Seeing Red by Entombed ( i don't know whether i prefer Swedish anger to Norwegian anger, but it is a close call. I could probably flip a coin. ya know? Seeing Red is on Uprising, an album that I love. Uprising features a song called Scottish Hell that is a cover of a song by a band called Dead Horse. Here are the lyrics to that song. "Satan kissed my dog/Cracked his moral shell/Possessed to wear the kilt/In his Scottish hell/I touched your lips your eyes fell out/On to the floor behind the door/I picked them up and washed them off/And taped them back upon your face". i think moral should really be mortal, but i like it both ways.)
"Don't ask me when i began to hate/Cuz i don't recall a time i didn't/Am i the only of my kind?/No!"
3) From Tapioca Tundra by The Monkees
"It can not be a part of me for now its part of you".
4) From Apple Cider by Five by Five ( whose singles are all excellent and the single versions are a lot better than the album versions too cuz they are louder. I love their original "Fruitstand Man" which pre-dates "Vegetable Man" i believe and their cover of "Fire".)
"Look at her face, the glow of apple cider./I know a place where i can get some cider".
5) From Yester Love by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles
"Yester is the prefix that we fix to things that have gone by forever".
6) From W.O.R.K.(N.O.Nah No!No!My Daddy Don't) by Bow Wow Wow
"There! There! Baby Bear, nobody's gonna teach you all the rules, even if they want you to surrender, just tell them, schools out forever".
7) From Workin' On A Groovy Thing by Patti Drew
"ecstacy is a reality".
8) From Sinking Ships by The Bee Gees
"Watching the sail in the sun as it sinks in the sea".
9) From No Help From Me by The Lemon Pipers
"Why should i buy, when i can steal, why should i love, when i can feel?".
