I saw Psychic TV last night. I mainly just went out of admiration for Genesis P. because I'd said if h/she ever came here, no matter what the circumstances I'd have to go. Aside from one album (Towards The Infinite Beat) I've never been impressed with Psychic TV on a musical level, and the new album didn't do a whole lot to change that (well to be fair, I just found most of it far too depressing). So I expected to get bored after about three songs and go home. Instead they were absolutely fantastic, and even though I was dead tired after a time and new I had to go to work in the morning, I just could not bring myself to leave until I knew they had finished. Musically everything was right on as well. They even did a cover of Velvet Underground's Foggy Notion. S/he also did plenty of ranting about the Bush administration which I appreciated because *I'm* usually the one to go uncomfortably overboard with that. S/he said he wanted to stick a fist up their nether regions. I loved it.

Actually, I'm finding out that the most remarkable thing this year is not the Throbbing Gristle album or the Psychic TV album but this other album called Thee Majesty's "Vitruvian Pan" (good heavens, *three* albums this year for Gen! S/he is on a roll!) Thee Majesty have a myspace page, but for some reason I'm unable to link to it here.

What would be the best way to sell a bunch of Psychic TV vinyl (including some pretty rare material)? I am afraid I will hardly get anything for it at a used record store, but I dread dealing with ebay and boxing it up and mailing it off and worrying about it getting damaged, or worrying that someone might claim it's been damaged when it hasn't, etc.
Also, any thoughts on whether this is this a good moment to be selling rare PTV vinyl? (Like, what do you think the market for it is like these days?)
― Rockist Scientist, Saturday, 25 August 2007 21:24 (sixteen years ago) link
I think that I would pay you good money for NY Scum Haters or Mouth Of The Night (or a few other things). I don't think the market is at quite the feverish level it was in the pre-filesharing days. Seriously, price it out at some reasonable level and post it here. Other people have done the same and it beats eBay.

Ha, I don't have Mouth of the Night, but I remember seeing that used all over the place (of course, I mean around 15 years ago).

Rockist: Ebay is your best bet. Describe it well, pack it in firm LP mailers (boxes are sometimes requested but usually are a waste of time/postage), and you should be fine. I've sold tons of stuff and only ever had one LP damaged in-transit (buyer claimed against postoffice).
Seriously, the 'returns' will be better there.

I too, will defend Genesis. Does anyone else here appreciate the song from the new Psychic TV album called "Lies And Then"? That is the only song I really particularly like off that album. It's a beautiful burst of pure alternating pop/punk vitriol, in my opinion.

Does anyone know something about the ideology behind the thransgender esthetics of Genesis.
― joost666, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 10:19 (sixteen years ago) link
Well I've always heard that the whole point is to surgically make Gen & Lady Jaye the same person. I haven't been able to find much "ideology" about it beyond that, but I'll dig out my magazine again from a couple of years ago and see if I can find anything I missed. I don't believe that Gen has taken hormones, which is why I believe people in-the-know might hesitate to directly call him/her transgendered. Although it's obvious that socially, s/he must bear the brunt of anything a transgendered person would.
All I can find on the Gen website is a paragraph or two on hermaphrodites, which is really another subject entirely than either transgendered people or whatever Gen is.
― Bimble, Saturday, 1 September 2007 09:36 (sixteen years ago) link

Lady Jaye died suddenly on Tuesday 9th October 2007 at home in Brooklyn, New York from a previously undiagnosed heart condition which is thought to have been connected with her long-term battle with stomach cancer. Lady Jaye collapsed and died in the arms of her heartbroken "other half" Genesis Breyer P-Orridge.

"Dreams Less Sweet" was an important album to me when I was 16/17. I didn't know anything about them, I got a cassette copy of it from a friend, and it wasn't like any other music I listened to at the time. This was right when I had gotten my driver's license, and I liked to drive around country roads at night with that tape on, imagining some kind of pagan horrors in the cornfields.
