What do you all think of It's Alright on the Night style children assisted sketches. I mean the ones where they show a video clip to kids and then laugh at their reactions/comments. I just think the kids are so fucking oblivious half the time and you have this audience of total morons who might as well be saying "haha I'M GROWN UP, I DON'T SAY PRECOCIOUS THINGS ANYMORE BECAUSE MY SPIRIT WAS CRUSHED YEARS AGO!!!!". Also the things aren't ever that funny and I just want to get 5 minutes with the audience to let them know that the fucking child who says "it was funny when the bear bit the womans arse" or something, is probably about ten times smarter than they'll ever be.

There's nothing drastically wrong with being amused by young children or whatever, but isn't televising it and blasting it out to a studio audience just a total pain in the face. It's all so forced, there's not even any vague idea of what they want the children to say, the audience just fucking laugh anyway. Also it's particularly irksome when they're laughing because the child in question is actually intelligent, "look at that one, he's different!!!!".

I must admit to liking those adverts for... well, I can't remember obv, some bank thing... with the kids going 'I would have an office in the North Pole - with some polar bears and some penguins. And maybe some Eskimos except they're really called Inuits.' That kind of thing.

Yes, the audience are the very irritating part of these things. Kids saying funny/dumb/odd things is generally at least thought-provoking, but the audiences always deserve major punching.

i am not a huge fan of this kind of thing, people laughing at kids' reactions etc is just kind of condescending.
i used to hate it when adults laughed at me for my serious attempts at stuff.
maybe im a tad over-sensitive but i dont like to see people laugh at children, laughing 'with' and laughing 'at' are very different.
i am very careful to not laugh at my son as he tries to talk/express himself etc. we laugh together in fun, which is more important.
um.......yeah, i guess this is a sore point with me.

A thought-provoking example: someone (Mark S, poss) was talking about showing a Superman comic to a child. One panel was a close-up of the S insignia on his chest. The child wanted to know why Superman didn't have a head there. A new, funny, genuinely interesting thought, I think, suggesting some complex things I didn't realise about how images are read, and about things we need to learn as we develop.
