Rolling Stand-Up Comedy 2011

a girl I knew in college, Amy Schumer, is a standup now and she's co-hosting a show on Fuse with one of the guys from Blink 182. she's pretty funny, too, was a finalist on Last Comic Standing and had a good CC special recently.

i must have seen some of his appearances but i have no recollection of his act. anyway r.i.p.

Stories like that make me think Carson was a king prick. The way he had Joan Rivers blackballed from NBC over her talk show in the 80's was pretty terrible.

He seemed like it was more of being rigidly principled. Like "these are my rules and woe if you cross them". I mean, the Rivers blackballing was pretty bad, but from where he stood she betrayed him by trying to go out on her own. Dude seemed very, very black and white, friendship or no.

I don't think he was a prick. Maybe just hard to get close to.

Not like I know, or anything. Just kind of the feeling I get from him, and what I've read.

never saw Mo Mandel before and he was pretty funny. Tom Rhodes sounded like he was straight-up imitating Mitch Hedberg with his delivery sometimes.

these CC ads for Nick Kroll's new special are so irritating. he's like this totally decent average snarky bespectacled comic but then he does all these awful characters where he wears sunglasses and 'talks black'

Not a big Kroll fan. Also, as much I like football/fantasy football, you'd think I would be a sucker for The League. I'm not. I almost hate it tbh.

i like all of his characters. i think he is excellent live and on cdr. i think i've seen him do stand up as himself once or twice but i don't recall much of that.

I enjoyed El Chupacabra on a live multi-performer CDR but the character is a bit too me-no-rikey for me to totally relax into; BB stays just this side of the line - the pleasure comes from hearing him stay in pace, not merely improvving and reacting and feeding the scene in character, but managing to keep making discretely funny malaprops of what "BB" means to be saying at the same time

I saw a little bit of that countdown yesterday. Ryan Stout made me laugh pretty hard.

Nick Kroll's hour was not bas at all, especially when he wasn't in character.

yeah i don't have much of a problem w/ him in normal standup mode

Here's my friend April, who's still kind of a n00b at stand-up, but is getting better.

I wish she had a dedicated youtube channel instead of having bits and pieces scattered all over, but whatever.

tbh too many standups are way too slick with online stuff now, if she's just starting out it's probably better that she let people who like her stuff upload it than just plaster youtube with dozens of her own videos.

I think she did her first open mic right at the end of 2008.

Saw some of an old Daniel Tosh standup special on CC about 2-3 months ago and was surprised how funny I found it ("No, I don't want to smoke a bowl; I'm not 17, I have things to do. Grow up and do coke"). Didn't really catch any racist stuff there or on the clip show, but I don't see it much. He just seems to be doing for gay-seeming, fuckable blond dudes what Sarah Silverman did for JAPs.

I saw Eugene Mirman twice last year; much funnier than he was 5-10 years ago, I think.

Yeah, Eugene has finally stumbled across what he does best. Not sure what that is, but he's funnier now.

Eugene was on Colbert Monday night as a medical clown.

It is not 2011, but Paul F. Tompkins' "Impersonal" album is killing me lately.
