mamouns is great b/c the falafel is priced accordingly. it's like $3.50. i went had lunch there with some friends before my wedding. it was like $2.80 back then. it can feel kind of hard nowadays to find falafel for less than $5. some places even charge like $8 bucks, fuckin ripoff

marcos, Monday, 9 June 2014 16:05 (ten years ago) link

The Mamouns on macdougal and cream cheese bagels from bagels on the square is basically how I eat for less than $10 a day in NYC

or springfield, or new bedford, or lynn, or chelsea, or holyoke, or or or or or

See now I like Holyoke. It's like, liminal. A lot of New England feels too, like, organized or something. Where is the weird?

Kornblud (admrl), Monday, 9 June 2014 16:18 (ten years ago) link

new england is not about the weird, you have the rest of the country for that

lag∞n, Monday, 9 June 2014 16:23 (ten years ago) link

btw check out this map the green parts are census blocks with zero residents, n maine is the least populated place east of the rockies (w texas maybe)

Yeah I guess that's my point!

Kornblud (admrl), Monday, 9 June 2014 16:29 (ten years ago) link

New England can be pretty weird, for example they sell homemade beef jerky at gas stations

So what do you all like best about New England?

Kornblud (admrl), Monday, 9 June 2014 16:47 (ten years ago) link

Probably how new it is

, Monday, 9 June 2014 16:49 (ten years ago) link

macklin' rosie (crüt), Monday, 9 June 2014 16:49 (ten years ago) link

lag∞n, Monday, 9 June 2014 16:49 (ten years ago) link

old shit

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Monday, 9 June 2014 16:51 (ten years ago) link

oh yeah i forgot about lobster rolls and the fall, i dont really care abt sailboats tbh, i mean they are cool but theyre not really part of my life

lag∞n, Monday, 9 June 2014 16:52 (ten years ago) link

hahahaha

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Monday, 9 June 2014 16:52 (ten years ago) link

i haven't had a lobster roll yet this year - that's gotta change soon

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Monday, 9 June 2014 16:53 (ten years ago) link

tbh i prefer a lobster w butter like 1000% over a lobster roll but i will eat a lobster roll if i have to

lag∞n, Monday, 9 June 2014 16:54 (ten years ago) link

i like driving around back roads in vt listening to tunes zoning out to the tranquility

lag∞n, Monday, 9 June 2014 16:54 (ten years ago) link

yeah that sounds good

I think I found some nice back roads near Putney the other day. And some BBQ.

The old stuff here is too old. How about like 50 year-old stuff?

Kornblud (admrl), Monday, 9 June 2014 16:57 (ten years ago) link

Maine lobst w/ butter and lemon is pretty perfect

, Monday, 9 June 2014 16:58 (ten years ago) link

The fall is short, also

All the seasons seems short except for winter, which takes years apparently

Kornblud (admrl), Monday, 9 June 2014 16:58 (ten years ago) link

yeah its the worst

lag∞n, Monday, 9 June 2014 16:59 (ten years ago) link

yes

Kornblud (admrl), Monday, 9 June 2014 16:59 (ten years ago) link

I like how cheap it is where I am. That's a great thing about New England. Living like a king!

Kornblud (admrl), Monday, 9 June 2014 16:59 (ten years ago) link

I guess this wouldn't be true if I were in Boston.

Kornblud (admrl), Monday, 9 June 2014 17:00 (ten years ago) link

I might go to Boston next Friday, for the first time, after living here a year.

Kornblud (admrl), Monday, 9 June 2014 17:00 (ten years ago) link

being an actual king, the king of the northeast kingdom

lag∞n, Monday, 9 June 2014 17:00 (ten years ago) link

yea the old houses are awesome, cool little towns, i like all the woods, nice combination of more densely populated areas with picturesque rural landscapes. lots of good farmers markets. i love how easily accessible everything is. liberal politics are nice too. basically everybody is liberal here. there is definitely some white conservatism and it's not the west coast or anything but it's nice to live in an overall progressive area. gay marriage in most (if not all?) states. since i work in academia it's also cool to have so many colleges and universities here, too. having the ocean nearby is nice too.

Depends where on the West Coast you mean. I moved here from CA and I find it a little politically stuffy at times. But maybe that varies throughout the Northeast, I dunno. I too work in academia but I prefer that stuff in small does, you know...it has it's place.

Kornblud (admrl), Monday, 9 June 2014 17:09 (ten years ago) link

I do like New England, btw, I just still feel like I'm finding my way & looking for an "in"

Kornblud (admrl), Monday, 9 June 2014 17:09 (ten years ago) link

Too many colleges = not a good thing, in my opinion, that's why I live a little ways away from where I work.
