Yesterday Abbott announced an indigenous ~thing~ that on paper looks reasonably sympathetic and even reconciliatory. I doubt it actually is, but my point is that Labor is now such a fucking duff party that Abbott can move into Gillard's social policy holes and just clean up. If he allows same-sex marriage to proceed, that's his last social policy manacle discarded and he will romp it in next year, guaranteed.

That model was the Howard government at its most ideological, based on John Howard’s personal vision of a taxpayer-funded transformation of Australians into his ideal of Liberal voters — nuclear families, shareholders, privately schooled, using private health insurance.
