baffled by this. i've only been around for five years (or so?), but ILX is so much friendlier now than it was then. miss u ethan...

It is a much friendlier place now than it was in the Dom Era, but it does seem to be getting rough again. I mean, no one wants a Snopes Board -style "no personal comments" policy--I certainly don't--but things seem to be getting out of hand.

Anyone who thinks ILX is much friendlier now than it was when Dom and Ethan posted here is looking at the past through piss-colored glasses.

hey guys, there's been a brief mod quorum. this is whiney's fourth/fifth (we couldn't figure out which) banning and nobody else has done this before. there's a general sense that this cycle could keep on going forever and several mods are not comfortable with whiney continuing 30 days on/ 30 days off indefinitely. the decision's been made collectively to make up new rules to address the issue. So from here on in and starting with whiney's current ban, repeat SBs starting with the third trip down the SB road garner a 60 day ban rather than 30. This is meant to provide an alternative to a permaban when we have a poster that dances on the "just being a troll"/"scared he's gonna hunt me down irl" fence. As with all these ILX LAWS (except for "don't be a dick") it's open to mod interpretation; if somebody's banned for their third time after four years, they're less likely to catch 60. If somebody is consistently getting banned month in and month out, it's most likely gonna be 60.

i've spoken with whiney on all this and though he's certainly not in full agreement, he gets it. he gave me an "I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF I'M AGONNA RETURN" but y'all know he's coming back. this is his trash-strewn nest and he is surrounded by like minded types who kinda dig his schtick, myself included.
He did personally request that everyone cause as much drama about this announcement as possible.
i am offering myself up as a sacrificial lamb to take your heckling, lampooning, invective and reasonable and unreasonable questions.

actually,--and I thought I'd never be saying this-- but knowing how he went out last time*, I kind of feel like we shd give Whiney a 90 day reprieve from SBs when/if he comes back.

The most fucking hilarious thing is how - in my assumption at least - the people who howl the most about people getting sb'ed off the borads are the same people who sb others with great relish! You cant have it both ways.

you know what? you're right. I've sb'd him prolley the last 3 times he got kicked off; usually it's when he makes over-the-line personal attacks at ppl I like (eg ilxor, AG, jjj). I think the last time wz bcz of the ilxor polls poll...

anyways there's a difference between a troll and a bully and even though I like him sometimes, and I think he made the Pippa thread, I think he needs to spend some time learning how to not attack people

forks— is there any way to compensate for folks SB'ing Whiney on sight when he comes back? even if by chance he isn't immediately trolly/offensive, lord knows he'll rack up 20+ SBs from people who want him gone again immediately.

i can only speak for myself but i am willing to give the benefit of the doubt and not sb him until he makes a sufficiently annoying post, even if that means waiting for his 2nd, 3rd, even 4th post

Ilxor. - if there was a roaming gang of bullies who were pushing whiney off the board, it'd be addressed but plenty of whineys sbs are earned and dude knows this. Everybody on this board has a few errant sbs that are "for no reason". Whiney may well get 20 sbs on contact but that wont be what forces him out.
