The ground, and the hitting thereof

I haven't been able to find a thread about bicycle injuries on any board. (If there is one, plz link.) In my recent experience, they can be quite nasty. I think I narrowly avoided the hospital on Monday night. Raw pavement, nasty bruises, whole left side swollen (I thought for a while that my left tricep was just getting super fucking awesome huge, but no), muscle pulls across my entire upper torso on both the dorsal and ventral side...

So who has hit the ground? (ha.) How hard, and what did you do about it?

I've been lucky so far ~touch wood~

but I have had a four or five clipless moments by now and decked it each time, nothing bruised but pride tho

Never had any major mtb injuries even though I've been over the bars more than once - usually the magic gymnastic unconscious impulse kicks in and i manage to unclip and land reasonably gracefully (or at least without pain/damage). Mtb can be more forgiving than road I think, you might be more likely to come off but often you have more time to react, and with luck you'll be landing on nice soft mud or bracken instead of hard hard road.

There's something unpleasantly fate-tempty about threads like this! Especially since I was thinking today that I've only had 2 accidents while commuting, one of which was a) minor and b) completely my fault, and the inevitability that there are more to come...

Actually, three accidents, if you count being flung off my bike within 20 yards of starting off when the D-lock I'd carelessly hung over the stem jammed the bars, but that was slow, painless and dumb, as well as away from traffic/road/people, so I don't :)

Hope you recover quickly btw, Kenan! What actually happened?

it's that "tick tick tick tick tick tick tick" sound you hear as you regain consciousness that gets me.
