feel like the other evos have CANNONDALE on them a bit much so this works for me. could do with a touch more colour tho, maybe!

This is pretty and at £3200 for titanium, Di2 and Carbon wheels seems like somewhat of a bargain.

Talkin of Lustworthery bikes Genesis bikes is sponsoring a UK based continental team next yera and they are going to be riding a Reynolds 953 steel frame that promises to flirt with the UCI weight limit and probably be very lustworthy. I can't wait for that to come out.

yeah i sorta picked up on something about that chinarello ish in forum lands, but i don't know what it's really about? was it some sorta knockoff bikes, or just pinarello moving production to asia?

knockoff frames - here's a good primer. lots of them seem like they're made from the mould for the old prince, some with 'dogma' stickers and some unbranded; newer ones look properly like the dogma.

notorious for these scary pix of one that snapped at the fork crown mid-ride... revealing fork legs filled with chi newspaper! i think there's lots out there now, though, and they can't all be failing. sorta curious how they ride tbh. tho i'd tend towards sticking with a well-known brand for warranty claims and the like.

cinelli laser viva is quite beautiful - hate to think of the cost.

also the giro empire, aka the taylor phinney shoe, very on-trend silver (!) and neon yellow (!) laces (!!).

though most of the people in this thread won't care about it, but thompson's height-adjust seatpost looks amazing.

i really want a drop seatpost

the drop thing is covenient, but the pounding that many local trails have taken from hard dh style riding and high traffic has made them basically shit for non shuttle riders. just pushes the rest of us out into backcountry.

i have a drop seatpost now, although it could use an upgrade (it's an earlier design that has some problems the newer designs have been correcting). it goes beyond just being convenient - in fact, i'd say that, aside from disc brakes, it's the best MTB upgrade i have ever made (and that includes suspension). it's the kind of thing you don't use until you have it - i used to adjust my seat once or twice during a ride, but with the height-adjust post, i probably move my seat 10-15 times, or more if there's a lot of rolling terrain.

i've been dreaming of a bike that has a dropseat as the focal point -- basically a fully rigid 29er (or KRAMPUS) with a carbon fork. maybe SS and with flat pedals, for shits. a rigid bike isn't nearly as much of a pain on the downhill if you dont ever sit down and don't have a dumb old seat jacking you in the crotch, esp if its really easy to wheelie over stuff (carbon fork!). obv this does not obtain in places with actual mountains, but for trail riding in the midwest? fuck. yes.

can we do that bike nerd thing where we spec out bikes? ok? ok.

that laser cut headtube is amazing. also... the wait for a vanilla is over 5 years?!?! handcrafted custom bikes are cool and all, but is vanilla doing anything so spectacular that it's worth waiting 5 years for one?

it seems a bit insane to me too, how long do you wanna wait for a townie bike?? I guess that stuff just takes time when you do it right. (note that he gets other framebuilders in to work on the speedvagens, whereas I think vanilla is just sacha himself.)

'proper' croix de fer is reportedly fairly heavy, CDF more so. sounds like they really roll over the ruff stuff tho. plus steal is reel. boardmans seem pretty good, wiggle export them here to aus and they were a steal with the exchange rate there for a while.

genesis doing equilibrium disc for '14 model year - reckon i could be down with that once shimano get hydro down pat.

they are less wear + tear on rims for sure; probably more consistent performance in wet weather. more clearance for fenders too, I'd say.

I've had a Croix de Fer for 9 months and i think it's great (though I don't have much to compare it with). I wanted a do-everything bike (everything being commutes and light touring really). Discs are a huge improvement over any brake I've used before, and they work just as well in the wet. It's not a light bike but I've fitted Marathon Plus's and a rack and I don't really notice it being heavy anymore. That's my unbiased opinion on it.

Downside with the discs on the Croix is the rear is mounted outside the frame so you have to get a special wide-ass rack to clear it.

My lust right now is, I think, just for a Cube Peloton. I think I just want a pure road bike. I've hammered the Tricross with skinnies, and want to see how a proper road bike feels.
