I want an 11-28 cassette that goes up in increments of 1 tooth the whole way. Seriously.

Isn't that the same website that did the April Fool's article about a home-application kit for carbon fiber in which the bike weighed LESS afterward than before?

If you wait about a decade, you will probably get this. I don't know what Ed's beef is with this, mine would be that it's a needless extra complication that will be of no benefit whatsoever to any user who isn't a competition road cyclist. In addition, it will likely result in yet another "standard" in chain pitch/width, and will almost certainly need a matching set of chain/chainset/gears to go with the ziggurat-like sprocket cluster.

This goes on the list along with Shimano's stupid electronic Dura-Ace shifter set, Shimano, Campag and Sram's stacking of extra sprockets on the block past 7 over the last couple of decades, the multiplicity of non-interchangeable bottom-bracket "standards", the several hundred disc-brake-pad "standards" currently on the market, a bunch of stupid crap that's taken one of the best things about a pedal cycle - that it's a simple, efficient machine that can be fixed by any competent home mechanic, and ruined it beyond repair. I cannot express how much I hate these companies and what they've done. Universal standards that work are a GOOD THING, this is obvious, isn't it. Multiple competing proprietary standards are a fucking mess.

This pretty much expresses how I feel about it.

thirded.

from a durability, functionality, and utility standpoint, i havent seen much upside beyond 8 speeds.

i also think compact makes for consistently bad chainlines.

why bother pouring time and energy into this shit when they could just make internally geared hubs lighter/better?

I know it's an obvious thing to say but it is so blatantly all about "product differentiation" isn't it?
