I only do this to people on "serious" bikes

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Saturday, 19 April 2008 19:05 (sixteen years ago) link

actual bikers do a biker wave as far as ive been able to tell (extending the left arm in passing)

deeznuts, Saturday, 19 April 2008 19:18 (sixteen years ago) link

actually i think i got way more biker nods today as opposed to when i wasn't wearing a helmet the other day. must've looked more "serious".

Jordan, Saturday, 19 April 2008 19:49 (sixteen years ago) link

i prefer the wave

cutty, Saturday, 19 April 2008 20:08 (sixteen years ago) link

the other guy might think he is as fast or cool as you

Hunt3r, Saturday, 19 April 2008 20:40 (sixteen years ago) link

Mark C, Saturday, 19 April 2008 21:02 (sixteen years ago) link

I got *laughed* at today, is that a friendly bike dude thing?

Mark C, Sunday, 20 April 2008 18:11 (sixteen years ago) link

i point my left forefinger off my bars, kinda like "hey you"

Steve Shasta, Monday, 21 April 2008 03:48 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah I lift my right hand of the bars. I have noticed an increasing amount of snubbing these days tho. Like whatever fat old dude on colnago don't wave at me then.

wilter, Monday, 21 April 2008 03:49 (sixteen years ago) link

off

wilter, Monday, 21 April 2008 03:51 (sixteen years ago) link

uk mtb practice = nod and the standard uk neutral rhetorical greeting of "alright?"

ledge, Monday, 21 April 2008 08:36 (sixteen years ago) link

I find a jaunty salute does the trick.

Ed, Monday, 21 April 2008 09:25 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't wave at anyone and have never noticed anyone else doing? Weird. But I'm an unfriendly bastard.

Laurel, Monday, 21 April 2008 16:42 (sixteen years ago) link

I only wave to ppl in lycra.

wilter, Monday, 21 April 2008 22:11 (sixteen years ago) link

s'alright. we dont hate the playa. we hate the game.

Hunt3r, Monday, 21 April 2008 23:09 (sixteen years ago) link

got very few nods tonight and i think it was because i looked unserious (jeans, button-down, no helmet).

Jordan, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 03:12 (sixteen years ago) link

Does anyone else thank riders who give them a tow?

Mark C, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 22:35 (sixteen years ago) link

???

Jordan, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 02:54 (sixteen years ago) link

slipstreamin'

wilter, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 02:57 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, sorry, when you follow them for a while and don't help out by letting them slipstream you for a bit (I try to be fair but if their speed is such that even when slipstreaming I can only just keep up, there's no point in me taking the lead).

Mark C, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 13:58 (sixteen years ago) link

don't apologize to the bike newbie

You ride a cruiser.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 16:16 (sixteen years ago) link

i dont usually draft ppl i dont know as i dont trust them, and i dont like people whom i dont know drafting me univited very much. if someone does draft me, im polite tho and point out hazards etc.

so if i draft someone i dont know its usually either brief, or i'll ask him if its alright and then thank him.

one thing i practice almost always is to ask riders broken down on the side of the road "you ok?" and render assistance if needed/possible.

Hunt3r, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 16:51 (sixteen years ago) link

i completely freaked out an older lady once by drawing up next to her while she was riding and pointing out that her front quick release was completely open. I advised her to stop slowly. she didnt believe me/didnt know what i was telling her/didnt understand quick releases.

she did ultimately stop and allow me to fix it.

You ride a cruiser.

Technically a 3-speed Flyer, which I <3 very much.

the other day i was going up a really steep hill and my chain de-railed when i shifted down. two different dudes stopped to see if i needed help, and even though i didn't this time, it was really nice.

Jordan, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 17:43 (sixteen years ago) link

what were you wearing?

cutty, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 20:19 (sixteen years ago) link

not spandex

Jordan, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 20:52 (sixteen years ago) link

I greet everyone I see while on the bike. My fellow townspeople are tired of me already.
