mrs h's commuter/errand bike. i bought 93 vintage specialized hybrid frame/fork/headset--$20 on craigslist. i had to buy a saddle, seatpost, tires, and rack, but everything else was in my junk bin. rides great. looks...well, its an abomination. you cant have it all for $100. weird stem/seatpost config necessary to fit super long legs/short torso.

super long legs/short torso
pics plz (sorry)
Bike looks fine, though. Is it a trick of perspective or is the back wheel bigger than the front?

nice. ive been looking at xc bikes and having a hard time getting used to the idea of modern mtb riding position. i feel like im sitting straight up and down.
im going to moab friday. really reluctant to ride my ancient bike with little cracks in carbon on the down tube. maybe i'll just bring a road bike.

^^^ pic of me w/pista, taken outside the thompson center in downtown chicago. there's this old guy who has made it his mission to photograph all the messengers in town, so he'll hang out at the TC, snap photos with his ancient point and shoot, and then come down with copies for everyone weeks, maybe months later. in this case, my friend kyle just emailed me the pic, 1.5 years later

can't find the exact same specs as mine but this is the frame/bars/post with a mix of 09 ultegra with 08 dura-ace brifters and 08 easton circuits (discontinued).
basically it was a lot of bike for a fred like me but with the economy crapped out and my friends' own a bike shop and i sold them a car and we worked out a couple bikes as part of the exchange.

the frame is STIFF... i rode steel, titanium, aluminum and carbon before choosing this frame. it's monocoque, so no joints, lugging, buttings, or seams. the top tube is trapezoidal and the downtube is upside-down teardrop-shaped. i am neither small nor petite and carbon was an issue for me but now i ride relatively fearlessly. some of the descents following the climbs pictured above i'll hit 45mph+.
1st pic is from the top of Mt. Tamalpais with a fog-shrouded San Francisco peninsula in the distance.2nd pic is from the approach to Mt. Tamalpais (locals call it "Seven Sisters") overlooking Bolinas and Stinson Beach.3rd and 4th pics are at the base of the mountain at a reservoir called Alpine Dam.
― *⁂((✪⥎✪))⁂* (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 21:24 (sixteen years ago)
for historical purposes, you cross and mtb riders should note that mt. tamalpais served as the birthing ground for mountain biking as we know it today. there is a trail along a ridge in the near-background in pic #2 that is quite famous.

1983 Trek 400
I took off some of the ixnay crapay, next step is to get the derailleur sorted (right now it is basically a ss) and get some new handlebar tape (want to go w/ a deep red) / brake hoods. I kinda like the patina of the decayed and gooey old hoods but I want my bike to look loved. Yahhh trick i know I should have taken off the lock before the picture.
So much lighter than the Fuji upthread.

http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/6374/bikebn.jpgNew frame, new saddle and seat post, old everything else.
This new frame is chromoly. It's a little heavier than my last two, but after going through two aluminum frames in two years, I could use something a little stronger. And maybe it's a more comfortable ride?

in that first pic, i didn't mean to poach the trail... i came up the other side, where there's no sign, and then was surprised that the sign said it was closed... but there were plenty of other bikers and hikers on it, so i'm wondering if it's really closed or not.

v nice eman
cutty is right, you should get some clipless if only for those times you want to go on a long ride that is not just A-->B (i wear bike shoes all the time, but they're still inferior to real shoes for non-biking comfort, which is why i've got comfy slip-ons at school)
or just do what a lot of ppl do and ride yr street shoes on yr clipless when yr just getting around. it's really not much of a pain when you get down to it
― itdn put butt in the display name (gbx), Thursday, 19 November 2009 19:52 (sixteen years ago)
