Assuming I can pull a new bike together, I'm going to go to a local Lerner to cross event in a couple of weeks. Again I'm hamstrung by the fact that most cross events are out of town. I need a friend with a car or a car of my own.

had to start in the B's as opposed to C's as they made me start as a cat 3. ddb got 5th in the C's!

oh i forgot to mention i flatted. fucking clinchers. next time i run tubeless. tubulars tires are too expensive for me right now but they are the best option...

So I went to local cross skills workshop which was a lot of fun, I wan neither the fattest nor had the fanciest bike. A little disorganised as the pro coach had pulled out due to sickness but the fee was refunded and they still had three certified coaches, mainly working on bike handling skills. I managed a great face plant; whilst doing little loops practicing dismounts and remounts I spied Buick hubcap and stopped to toss it to the side, going round again I stuck my wheel in the sink hole it was covering and went over the handlebars, bruising both ribs an pride.

They're organising a ride sharing list for races, none of which are in town, which is good.

Not a UCI compliant course, but they need something tougher than a UCI namby pamby course for the real men of Northumberland.

on reflection, that's a bit of a jan ullrich 'chewing a wasp' face

that, and my lack of acceleration in the hills, are my key similarities to the jan

i did badly but had a classic time, obv. friend of a friend used a self-made bamboo bike!

was in B grade; i stayed and watched A grade go round after us. amazing scenes at that mudpit, with massive crowd and some bro palying bloooooodclaat jungle techno on this crazy solar powered sound system rigged into a cargo bike.

ROUND THREE

field of 60 riders in B-grade were already jostling for places at the start line, so i played it safe and started at the back (also: i hadn't done any practice laps beforehand due to ridic long line at rego desk). this meant that i was: a) positioned behind guy in lolzy outfit of g-string and ladies' stockings; b) had to wait for everyone in front to funnel into the gross mudpit that took up most of the first straight and the left-hand 'sweeper'. once outside the velodrome area i shed mud and started picking off the stragglers. end of lap 1, feeling good! continued apace, but during lap 3 i went BOOM and it basically turned into a grovel-fest. haaaaaard work. still quite pleased that i've not been last in any race, but will prob take more serious approach to training next year by actually doing some.
