thinking about getting some sick wheels/tires for my outback, they make burly tires thatre good for more car type vehicles now, good info abt people fucking up their outbacks putting truck stuff on them in here https://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-gear/cars-trucks/how-to-modify-crossover-vehicle-off-road
subaru also now offers an off the shelf burly boy, the wilderness, but its brand new and im not looking to pay all that money
https://i.imgur.com/fpOUmZu.png
thinking also maybe a lift but it gets pretty dicey when you start fucking with the geometry of yr exhaustively engineered vehicle
the whole thing is obviously a silly project as a subaru will never be that good of an offroader for a number of reason, and while i def go rugged places more than the average individual im not hugely into it as an activity, also while offroading mods dont have the deleterious affect on resale price that a lot of mods do it does make the vehicle a more niche product
i will prob not do it but i just love the big chunky tires on the station wagon lol, trying to live the amc eagle life

look at all that plastic cladding on the wilderness lmao i love it they should just make the whole car out of the cladding
https://i.imgur.com/JZNWIPi.png
one mod i prob will do it get a cladding kit for the wheel wells, theres cladding everywhere else but not on the wells looks dumb
also now that ive been looking at sick wheels/tires mine look dumb, i bought this car to be sensible but i cant help wanting it to be cool, smh

subaru used to have a reputation in new england for being a good cold weather vehicle, not sure if that was justified or continues to be justified
― Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 1 December 2021 19:47 (two years ago) link
they are very good in the snow ice and so forth, i live in vermont and if you added up all the subarus and pickups it would probably be more than half the cars, their all wheel drive system is considered to best or nearly best

the wheels look good maybe you could go with an even beefier sidewall on the tires
― 龜, Wednesday, 1 December 2021 21:15 (two years ago) link
without a lift im not sure you can go bigger, and even with a lift not sure itd work as the car hangs down well past the mid wheel, tho you can get smaller wheels and bigger tires like so which is a pretty standard offroad approach

My dad is/was a big car guy and he would autocross the family car in the early 80s, so he put like sway bars and other stuff to stiffen the suspension of our 1983 Honda Civic station wagon.

xp I also think he removed the catalytic converter to increase the horsepower by some infinitesimal amount.

pretty sick, tho the tires kinda look too big for the wells imo, spacing starts to look weird

this one maybe even more so

― lag∞n, Wednesday, 1 December 2021 21:53 (two years ago) link
feel like the car will be periodically making contact with the tires too
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 1 December 2021 21:57 (two years ago) link
yeah you can test the tires at full extension of the suspension (probably need to remove the shocks/springs to do so) and turning all the way to the left/right to see if there's rub
if there's rub you can fender roll
