Paname

I am a little obsessed with how they call DUMPLINGS! 'raviolis' in France. I just ate a lot of raviolis in Belleville last week. I really wanted to do the 100 for 25 euro one but thought we would be judged. Now I am looking up exactly what chinese à la française is. (désolé de ne pas écrire en français)

Pas de souci, Yerac.

That, and almost every starter is a 'nem', which I suppose makes sense given France's colonial history in East Asia.

Speaking of raviolis, I remember watching a bizarro-world documentary about the spread of appartements raviolis in Paris, i.e. clandestine apartments where ILLEGAL DUMPLINGS! are made 24/7! The voiceover makes it seem utterly terrifying, and it's just about the Frenchest thing ever.

I have a known term 'ravioli party' which just means I don't want to go out on a Friday night but want to stay in and eat a lot of pasta in the pot (usually ravioli) as a method of relaxation. So, that raviolis also means DUMPLINGS!, c'est parfait.

The appartements raviolis makes so much sense now. They are so labor intensive that to have them that cheap in a major city (see also NYC) of course something nefarious must be going on. When I make them from scratch I can maybe do about 60 over 3 hours but that includes the dough, filling and folding them all.

Sounds delicious.

I have no idea why the word DUMPLINGS! is automatically capitalized and appended an exclamation mark. I must be missing a significant piece of ILX history.

I have never been able to find decent (inexpensive) Chinese in Paris. There was this one place in Ourcq mais...non.

at Raviolis Nord-Est in Belleville I've watched people making the ravioli there but yeah it would make sense that they have people elsewhere making them too. we often buy the frozen bags of 100 there.

we have several places near us now that make tibetan momos and they are also delicious.

I was very happy about Ravioli Nord Est. I went by both locations to compare the raviolis. I am a little obsessed.

This was the first time I had hung out in Belleville (despite having been in Paris many many times) because I was staying across the canal. I was into it. I liked the mix of Chinatown, some middle eastern, some africaine, some good natural wine places and the awesome park.

yeah I could happily live in Belleville

Belleville is a bit dodgy, especially for chinese people because of all the chinese prostitutes all over the streets...

Mon enseignante parisienne m'a appris << l'hexagone >>.

Anecdote :
