is banning posters for beefing with mods really what we want to do?

ban aimless tho

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 July 2015 16:53 (ten years ago)

i'll take that chance

Aimless, Thursday, 23 July 2015 16:54 (ten years ago)

i apologized to stet off board btw seems like were cool, planning to steal some message boards together

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 July 2015 16:55 (ten years ago)

stet is a very forbearing person

Aimless, Thursday, 23 July 2015 16:56 (ten years ago)

but srsly what if we expanded the banning guidelines to include sanctimonious irrelevant posts or terrible jokes wldnt that in some ways be good

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 July 2015 16:56 (ten years ago)

like aimlesses constant judging of everyone on the planet is really just as mean as outright agression, and in a lot of ways its worse because it attempts to cloth itself in virtue

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 July 2015 16:58 (ten years ago)

he also impersonates a mod all the time, if impersonating a police officer is a crime impersonating a mod should be too

arrest him def

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:00 (ten years ago)

wow aimlesses "mask is really sliding off"

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:03 (ten years ago)

For real, though, I am 100% on board with Mordy's characterization of the ILX ideal as a benevolent dictatorship in which posters get to bitch for days about mod decisions on threads that I can happily ignore unless I'm in the mood to watch a clusterfuck unfold.

I think it's totally reasonable to tempban someone for being a total asshole to the mods (and I think starting a thread calling someone a chickenshit counts but 1) I'm way not into the zinghole goon (or whatever Whiney said that one time) approach to human interaction generally and 2) I really like how's life), although I don't think it's reasonable to ban someone for disagreeing with a mod, even vociferously, as long as the disagreement is relatively civil and doesn't devolve into straight up nastiness.

In other words, let's just be nice to each other, okey doke? This has been your Midwestern Mom Hot Take on the last ILX clusterfuck.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:05 (ten years ago)

last - ha yeah right. Latest, I meant.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:06 (ten years ago)

Midwestern Mom Hot Take is like Hot Dish but with twice as much cream of mushroom soup.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:08 (ten years ago)

'midwestern hot moms' is a disappointing gis

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:10 (ten years ago)

I hardcore second carl's Hot Take except for the part I am not a mom.

Something Called Fudge (Old Lunch), Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:11 (ten years ago)

calls for civility can be p problematic in the context of power dynamics, not that theres anything of any irl gravity going on here but human social patterns tend to repeat themselves regardless of the stakes

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:11 (ten years ago)

honestly im glad to see that banning posters for beefing with mods is not what we want to do

affluent white (Lamp), Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:12 (ten years ago)

and within the ongoing greater discussion of online v irl niceness i do think that the space to be confrontational online in a way one wldnt feel comfortable irl has value, tho it is also def pretty dicey

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:13 (ten years ago)

genuinely don't feel like 'hey gawker dudes. what the fuck is wrong with you?' is a less offensive thread title than deej's

I mean obv history justified it eventually but j0rd and max were not newsworthy figures at the time

iatee, Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:15 (ten years ago)

The 'dudes' was deleted from the title at some point and then reinstated amid the recent clusterfuck by unknown parties.

Something Called Fudge (Old Lunch), Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:17 (ten years ago)

Yeah of course but I'm not asking tone policing Black Lives Matter activists, here. I'm telling a bunch of (mostly white and straight - thanks recent poll) dudes on a message board to quit being overly dramatic assholes to each other about what is pretty objectively petty bullshit.

Also just ftr by not naming every instance of what I think is objectionable assholery I'm not condoning it.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:19 (ten years ago)

oh wow whos being overly dramatic now

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:20 (ten years ago)

Hush you.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:21 (ten years ago)

loll

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:22 (ten years ago)

am kinda saddened by everyones reaction to lagoons mostly reasonable stance here also what it says about how a lot of ppl conceive of ilx

also i will give stet a thousand pounds if i get to temp ban whoever i want for a month or two

affluent white (Lamp), Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:23 (ten years ago)

we can help the mods out of their dilemma by the simple expedient of FP'ing those we think have earned it

I don't think I've never *FP'ed anyone in my life, or SB'ed or whatever, and I'm not about to start now.

(*I might have FP'ed Mr. R. Tanuki, I can't remember now)

Possibly Fingers (Tom D.), Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:27 (ten years ago)

angry mods who like starting threads outing posters for being bad at their jobs would def be against lamp style capitalism taking over the site

iatee, Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:27 (ten years ago)

I was waiting in case I needed to bump the "come here to look at trees" emergency thread but looks like I can stand down

I know I am My Little Pony Princess KiP around here & it does kinda bum me out when posters i like get beefy but by the same token I don't go off & cry about or anything bcz in the end yr all just bleeps and bloops in space

feel like i had some dece points but expressing them in such a blatantly provocative manner was prob not the best choice as far as having a good discussion

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:27 (ten years ago)

^

drash, Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:29 (ten years ago)

i mean obvs a good discussion was not what i was going for lol

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:30 (ten years ago)

what's the betting Lamp didn't check the latest currency conversion rates before making that offer

gawker's psychotic monkeys (imago), Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:30 (ten years ago)

:)

drash, Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:32 (ten years ago)

also i will give stet a thousand pounds if i get to temp ban whoever i want for a month or two

I think stet ought to take Lamp up on this offer, even if my head is the first on the temporary chopping block. hell, a thousand pounds isn't chump change and a temp ban is just temporary.

Aimless, Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:34 (ten years ago)

prob worth it

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:35 (ten years ago)

go for it

Aimless, Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:35 (ten years ago)

it will be an acid test of your principles

Aimless, Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:36 (ten years ago)

crowdfund bans

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:36 (ten years ago)

everyone has a price on their head. much better than FP

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:36 (ten years ago)

some sort of bidding system im thinking cld work

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:37 (ten years ago)

i mean i didnt look to see the exact rate but why wouldnt i roughly know the forex for usd/gbp? now im offended

honestly its probably not worth to spend fifteen hundred bucks but a) i feel bad that stet has to spend money on ilx and b) no one wld tell me what coffee beans are best to buy so ive just got money sitting around anyway

affluent white (Lamp), Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:37 (ten years ago)

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:38 (ten years ago)

i support the plan of lamp paying 1k pounds to stet for temporary banning powers for a month but i think that in case he goes drunk w/ power and bans everyone turning the board into a desolate wasteland for a month it should be limited to like maybe... 50 temp bans total. who knows maybe new lamp-style ilx is so compelling that board decides to never go back and makes those temp bands permanent.

Mordy, Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:39 (ten years ago)

omg i told u guys to school lamp on beans, see what happens

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:39 (ten years ago)
