general question: why are apologies such big deals? they're just words. you don't even have to make restitution. just say some things that you maybe don't even believe about how sorry you are. something about saying "i'm sorry" though really cuts to a human's soul and makes it hard to do w/out tossing in caveats or bullshit.

some of the other mods seem to have landed in their position by historical accident, like if we were starting the site today would people be like 'that jj is so calm and rational, he never gets in beefs w/ people and would never, say, start a thread for the purpose of calling out individual ilxors for doing their acutual irl job poorly, he should be put in a position of power'
