a thread of serious discussion re ethan's permaban for image spamming

so maybe the 51 should trigger a mod discussion about the poster and course of action rather than an automatic ban and the mods having to say "yeah we're taking a look at it"?

cause as long as those automatic bans are happening we're gonna be having regularly scheduled ILX clusterfuck days.

1) The site got "clusterfucked" largely because of Ethan spamming a bunch of threads.
2) Most of the ongoing discussions today have not been about Ethan's banning, or Dom's banning.

Ten to fifteen people are screaming very loudly about this in as many places as they can while most of the rest of the posting population is doing their own thing. It's only a clusterfuck because you're following the clusterfuck threads.

tbh i would have preferred the "what do balearic listeners look like" clusterfuck over this one

the site got "clusterfucked" because dom passantino, who is not going to be coming back, at all, was banned and ethan threw a bitchfit over it and hilariously started spamming every single thread on the board! no matter what happened it was going to devolve into a hot mess, dude. most of the ppl over here right now are doing this for laughs.

maybe it's overly posi or naive to think that participation in these threads is indicative of investment in the site? i honestly think that most people who have been involved in this discussion are interested in ensuring that this kind of stuff doesn't continue to happen, which under the current system it most certainly will.

ilx may have thousands of registered voters, but there's a core of lifers and their views are more important than the randoms. many of the lifers hate each other, though, and eventually they will s-ban each other to death -- as has happened with ethan and tuomas -- leaving the board to go to seed.

im not disputing that dom is a terrible sociopath but he's also one of the people who makes the board a funnier place, and should be let back eventually imho.
