tbh "honoring women" sounds like code for subservient sex, like foot worship, though it could just be about going down on her

it sounds to me like repurposed biblical language (honor your father and mother) so yeah, basically.
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 18 September 2013 19:05 (twelve years ago)
it is also used in standard wedding ceremonies

it's probably overly florid, I just don't buy that it's secretly sexist

Outside of "honoring" specific women (i.e. giving them an award), it's almost exclusively used in the conservative religious context, says my google searching.

in the context of "recognize the contributions of generally" as opposed to in personal relationships seems a little different

in grade school gym/phys ed we weirdly had to do like two weeks of square dancing every year. no idea why. but one of the tunes began by demanding that you 'honor your partner' and 'honor your corner', which meant bowing shallowly to the person of opposite gender on either side of you.

― mookieproof, Wednesday, 18 September 2013 23:52 (twelve years ago)
Use in square dancing, the dance where rules are barked at you, is probably the strongest argument one could make for the term's conservative foundations.

yeah, probably. but it was not presented in a gendered manner -- everyone was to honor the people on either side of them (and while it was supposed to be boy/girl, that went out the window if there was an imbalance)
