this is obviously untrue and i'm surprised somebody who reads the boards as much as, and is as sensible as, wmc agreed with it.

My m.o. for the last few years has been to leave most of my opinions unexpressed.

shorter version: "Even though I have nothing of substance to offer on the current situation, I think I'll slide a little bamboo under the fingernail of one of the mods purely on a matter of posting style." For the record, it was the cumulative effect of this sort of stuff that made me decide to hang it up. It builds to a point where a mod's stomach lining says "either you go or I go, pal."

ehh i never remember you getting much of a hard time about being a mod, probably because of said unexpressed opinions? basically i'm needling jjj on the same tip i used to needle tombot and djp: "you seem to either really hate being a mod, or enjoy it for weird reasons, either way maybe you don't need to keep doing this?". sorry if it was tacky to pile on itt but it's not like there's ever a 'good time' to say these things where mods are like oh good it's complaint box day, let us have it!

It's true, I avoided a lot of the ill will that JJJ has caught, that DJP caught in the HI DERE era, and especially that Tombot caught. But every time somebody pushed what I considered an undeserved needle into a mod, I felt it a little bit too, and had a brief "oh lord, when will it be my turn" moment. I won't speak for any of the other mods, but it sure wouldn't surprise me to find that they felt it too. That's probably why I've crapped out as a mod after a relatively brief stretch: I'm too goddamn sensitive.

I will say that I never felt the needle when I thought the criticism was deserved, and there have been times when that was definitely the case. But it seems, looking back, that so much moderator criticism has boiled down to "I don't like your style, and somehow that's your problem, not mine." Posting style aside, and tendency to post "FUCK YOUUUUU no wait, that was injudicious and badly phrased, here's a more reasoned answer" aside, I think JJJ is one of the best mods ILX has ever had, and I always trusted his instincts over mine about what specifically needed to be done in any particular situation.

Let me just clean that up a bit and repeat it: for all you folks who think I was a good mod but JJJ is terrible, I followed his lead, and I don't think it ever led me wrong. Everything else is just cosmetics.

well i can't speak for everyone making every criticism but in this instance i was purely talking cosmetics; we don't know all that much about who makes the big mod decisions and how, we just see the guy who says "suck my cock you dumb asshole" so y'know, you deserve some credit for not being that guy.

I'll admit, the idea of a MOD BOARD C-SPAN holds some appeal
