Jets at SteelersPackers at Bears
Who gets hyped into inevitable failure this week?
― Dr. (Johnny Fever), Monday, 17 January 2011 07:31 (twelve years ago) link
Steelers Pack
Anything less = disappointment imo
― VegemiteGrrrl, Monday, 17 January 2011 07:39 (twelve years ago) link
Agree. I would settle for Bears in place of Packers, but would end up watching the SB only mildly enthused.
NO JETS.

― polyphonic, Monday, 17 January 2011 08:38 (twelve years ago) link
The temptation to wish for such a thing leaves the window open for the Jets winning it all, though.
― Dr. (Johnny Fever), Monday, 17 January 2011 08:42 (twelve years ago) link
anyone who even has an inkling to root for the jets should think long and hard about the jets at media day
― J0rdan S., Monday, 17 January 2011 08:48 (twelve years ago) link
^^^ wait, the Jets at media day would be a good thing, right? Pretty much the only hilarious and entertaining thing that would come out of a Jets SB appearance IMO.
― NoTimeBeforeTime, Monday, 17 January 2011 12:09 (twelve years ago) link
people should think long and hard about how much the jets boring-ify any game they're involved in (the actual game, not the surrounding circus)

steelers o-line is badly beaten-up at the moment, and jets will game plan well against it, i fear.

yes it probably is though my gut feeling was that I probably devalued the card $50-100 by doing so.
now it's probably worth more than an unsigned one, and could be much higher if say, he wins the super bowl, but I have no idea what kind of market there would be for that.

FUCK Mike Florio, God that article was infuriating. Him showing scorn to the cancer patient for not following along in his assassination of Rodgers reminds me of the South Park episode where the gay rights advocate called Big Gay Al a homophobe.

I went to work once when there was a hurricane churning about 150 miles offshore (this was the first time I lived here, back in 1999 or 2000) and got quadruple pay.

Tony Reali, of all people, pointed out yesterday that the "Philip Rivers did it!" claims are bogus, as we went out and did NOT come back in during the game in which he was actually injured. He played (and lost to) the Patriots the following week.

I liked what Drew Brees had to say. he stated that he played with a torn MCL this year but then also said all injuries are different and we shouldn't judge players without these details.
Caleb Haine was on the Dan Patrick Show today and had nothing but good things to say about Cutler helping him with reads and that he was surprised that Cutler didn't play bc he is so competitive.
Haine seems like a cool guy, and apparently the porn stache was the last remnant of a playoff beard some of the guys had been cultivating, lol

I have to wonder how much is Aaron Rodgers success is that he got to sit for a couple of years before having to be the main QB. It's kind of a rare thing for many first round QBs now.
― earlnash, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:05 (twelve years ago) link
I think it's an interesting discussion. That versus Ben who goes straight in, no bench riding. And it can easily go haywire when you let someone ride the bench too long, maybe they don't have what you wanted after all, or you put someone in too soon and they can never meet expectations. It's a real alchemy, I find it really fascinating,
― VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:17 (twelve years ago) link
Y'know, thinking about it, of the dudes who are thrown around commonly as the best QBs, I think Peyton and Roethlisberger are the only guys who get thrown around a lot in the Best QB discussion who started right away. Although Matt Ryan and Sam Bradford could be there in a while.
Rodgers had a bunch of years, Brees and Rivers and Brady all had a year or so, Vick played a little in his first year but wasn't the full-time starter until his 2nd year.
― C-L, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:27 (twelve years ago) link
Hasselbeck rode the bench too, right?
― VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:29 (twelve years ago) link
Yeah he (and Mark Brunell and Aaron Brooks) was the backup to Favre in GB until Seattle took him.

― VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:32 (twelve years ago) link
I did have to look that up, though, which reminded me of Hasselbeck infamously said "We want the ball, and we’re gonna score!" During the second overtime possession for the Seahawks, Hasselbeck threw an interception to Packers defensive back Al Harris which was returned 52 yards for a touchdown. It gave Green Bay a 33-27 overtime victory
Haaaaaaaa

is it too cynical to say that the cream rises regardless? like, matt flynn has sat behind rodgers, and he doesn't strike me as anything beyond a marginal starter

Wikipedia is a Hasselbeckian treat today! On Elizabeth Hasselbeck: Hasselbeck and The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg were discussing Senator Hillary Clinton's proposal that the U.S. Government provide a $5,000 savings bond for each child at birth. The conversation became heated when Hasselbeck stated it would lead to fewer abortions due to women wanting to keep the money.

Riding bench vs playing also interesting wrt Sanchez...kind of feel like Jets hold him at cross purposes, like "get out there!" but "call home every 30 minutes so we know you're okay". Feel like the only way anyone is going to know for sure about him is if they loosen the reins on him, let him make his own mistakes. Bunt guess the league isn't like that anymore.
