I'd watch the hell out of it if any networks in the US would bother to carry the games.

do you understand cfl now?

mookieproof, Saturday, 21 September 2013 05:44 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, i have a pretty good understanding of cfl and nfl now, though i definitely watch more of the latter. my brain just isnt able to deal with various soccer leagues, nfl, and cfl all at once, so i have to have priorities. i catch a game every once in a while though. i really should go to a bc lions game one day, i can see bc place from the corner of my block, and have been there for a soccer game, but lions game would be way busier and louder and also novel for me.

i sort of prefer the cfl's focus on the long pass because of the wider pitch, yard of space at the line of scrimmage, mobile offensive players before snap etc. and because i find nothing more dreary in gridiron football than a team rushing and gaining like a yard. but the nfl has bigger, faster, more skilled athletes, and more tactically astute coaches, so that's my preference. sorry, canada!

coincidentally my team in the nfl is also the lions.

I remember watching CFL as a kid back in the 80s before ESPN got the NFL. Edmonton Eskimos ruled the league at that time.

That '81 version of the Alouettes finished 3-13 and lost 3 games by 40+ points. I got to see the Bombers destroy them 58-2: http://www.nytimes.com/1981/08/10/sports/winnipeg-tops-alouettes-58-2.html

Plasmon, Sunday, 22 September 2013 05:59 (eleven years ago) link

were the two points a safety or two rouges?

Neanderthal, Sunday, 22 September 2013 06:38 (eleven years ago) link

Probably 2 rouges, safeties are rare in the CFL.

Main thing I remember from the game is that I could see it amazingly clearly: got my first pair of glasses that fall. Had been to a Bombers game the year before and couldn't see anything except a colorful blur, didn't realize that everyone else could see from that distance. I was amazed at the way fans in the stands were talking about plays on the field, assumed they knew so much more about the game and I had a lot to learn.

Riders dominating in all phases. Lots of happy green people wearing watermelon helmets.

This band is the most lol-Canadian thing I've seen in ages.
