Kurt Warner: Hall of Famer?

i think this past season + the kinda epic performance against the packers totally seals it (though i think it was sealed before), even when taking into consideration that last game against the saints.

yeah. as i've stated before i have mixed feelings about this guy but the game was richer and a hell of a lot more fun for having him in it. he'll be missed, but it appears that he's going out on top with dignity and class.

i think the only "iffy" factor for folks might be the gap between his two 3 yr runs, but i don't think it will matter. his second year as the starting qb with st louis is really curious, btw. his td to int ratio was 21-18 (not great) but he averaged 9.9(!) yards per attempt and therefore had a passer rating just under 100.

i think i remember hearing that warner is both #1 and #2 on the most passing yards in a super bowl list, and has the most career super bowl yards. he is a collector of fun records.

Of all the people who are in the hall of fame (assuming he gets in), did any depend more on their offensive line and receivers? He seems remarkably unadaptable for a hall of famer. When he's upright and in the pocket, he's amazing, but I would like to think that a hall of famer could elevate role players like Manning or Brady have. Warner's best seasons have come when he's had a remarkable level of talent from his receiving corps.

I'd say now he will get in with no problem. Kurt Warner has a great story of how he got to the NFL that trumps whatever statistical lack he had.

Those guys were there before him on the Rams and there after. Trent Green had a decent year the season before the superbowl win and they still could move the ball for a little while after Warner, but they don't compare to those three our four years when everything was clicking. Warner wasn't quite the same player for a long time after he hurt his hand. That seemed to be his problem up until he got to Arizona as he had so much problems fumbling with that bad hand. Warner was killer in the deep passing game those first couple of years with the Rams, you could put another QB and got some good production but most QBs are just not that good throwing that long.

I said it on another thread, how does this guy and Manning never play each other during their prime? I know I would have loved to see the show Rams play those early Manning Colts club which lived and died on the deep passing game pretty much all to Harrison.

yeah marc bulger ran the rams o with the same personnel for the most part and he couldn't even come close to warner, which maybe was a coincidence running concurrent to the decline of other players and the league catching up? i dunno.

this is a lot of fun to watch, trying to remember how little we knew about what was going to happen. I mean, obviously, the Rams had SIGNIFICANTLY upgraded that team in the offseason but they built around Trent Green at QB and nobody knew who the fuck Warner was.

AND....he doesn't do all that well in the early parts of this game! bad INT in the red zone. you figure you're seeing a backup doing a decent job but making 'rookie mistakes' until much later in the game.

this was the beginning of one of the shittiest eras of football, after the old guard at QB almost simultaneously retired and were replaced by terrible players until the draft started finally producing gold again by the 2010s. so having Kurt was like an homage to some of the players who just retired
