so hard to choose???
Frankie doing his JOHN MADDEN impression which I don't think I could EVER GET SICK OF IN A ZILLION YEARS?
Terry's totally hard-hitting interviews where he hicks it up and guffaws for five minutes for an "up close and personal" look at a hot NFL player?
Making fun of Howie's hair?
Making fun of Jimmy's hair???
Making fun of Terry's hair??
Making fun of Howie's suits?
Making fun of Jimmy's suits???
The non-stop forced "goofy" banter?
The part where they all get down to shirtsleeves and stand on a 10 foot by 10 foot "football field" to "illustrate" how plays work in a highly realistic fashion??
The "Grumpy Old Coaches" segment where Barry Switzer and Jimmy J. pretend to talk about the "important issues of the day" but they quickly change to arguing about old Cowboys bullshit??

i love caliendo's impression but not enough to sit through all that other shit~
― cankles, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 00:05 (sixteen years ago) link
despite my hate for fox's cow-pedophilia, i have to say that the moose and aikman are solid analysts.
but seriously...dick stockton is the second best announcer you can find? dude.
― j.q higgins, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 15:24 (sixteen years ago) link
yeah aikman is decent. Bradshaw is unbearable. have mike & mike & mike done any more games since the first week? lol train wreck.
― bnw, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 16:00 (sixteen years ago) link
He's no Don Criqui, that's for... OH WAIT.
― Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 16:13 (sixteen years ago) link
don criqui w/ bob trumpy? a foin, foin pair.
UGH!
― j.q higgins, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 17:06 (sixteen years ago) link
oh god the worst team (ie the Browns) in the AFC North (and Central) always got stuck with Criqui. It got to point where Don was doing cleveland preseason games.
― brownie, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 17:12 (sixteen years ago) link
in the late 80s early/mid 90s the worst team in the afc (usually the pats) always got stuck with beasley reece. and then there was that one year where beasley was teamed with joe willie namath, it was like nbc didn't want people in the northeast watching football or something.
― chicago kevin, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 17:51 (sixteen years ago) link
i was watching fox this weekend with my girlfriend and she'd never seen the halftime show before. trying to explain the purpose of bradshaw/long/jimmy and their dynamic was difficult because i can't even explain it to myself, really.
― omar little, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:09 (sixteen years ago) link
ALSO HATE: the stupid robot football player that does warmup exercises on the bumper graphics...they've been using that for what seems like forever
― M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:32 (sixteen years ago) link
will echo the praise of aikman though, and i didn't really think he would be good at all.
can we have a breathless documentary about the foxing of american sports?
no more robots! stop yelling at me! why do i need extra special sound effects besides those provided by the game?
GAH!
― j.q higgins, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:49 (sixteen years ago) link
I'd buy that for a dollar!
― Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 20:19 (sixteen years ago) link
Jimmy Kimmel could pick some games when he was the resident comedian on Fox's pregame.
To be honest, I'd rather watch pro bowling than pre-football on Fox, I can only take so much on the greatness of the Cowboys. I watched the NFL network last week and they seem to focus on actual game match ups than Favre having fun or check out the raunchy fake blonde giving the weather in Seattle. Parcells is back on ESPN and he is generally a bit more entertaining than some doing the preview stuff.
Daryl Johnston is not bad doing games for Fox either.
Gus Johnson is my favorite play by play guy, mostly just for the manic energy. That dude can get you excited about the Cardinals vs. the Bills, he just is into it. Gus is even nuttier doing college hoop in March.
― earlnash, Thursday, 4 October 2007 01:28 (sixteen years ago) link
Gus has alot of enthusiasm but blows calls wildly during acutual play by play. It isn't a big deal though as I can suss out what's going on- I'll give him credit for making a Jets/Browns game watchable.
― brownie, Thursday, 4 October 2007 01:38 (sixteen years ago) link
I keep forgetting I have NFL Network. Haven't watched it since last season.
― Rock Hardy, Thursday, 4 October 2007 01:57 (sixteen years ago) link
So I guess Frank is getting his own show called Frank TV on TBS, and it looks excruciating.

I've only seen the debut episode, but based on that, this is OTM.
Merely being able to do good impressiones does not = good television if you can't do anything interesting with them. Seinfeld in 2029? come on.
― Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 13 January 2008 14:25 (sixteen years ago) link
say what you will, he was the only one that got this game right

Jimmy Kimmel was actually pretty good at calling games, he could have probably opened up one of those 1-900 hot pick numbers with Randy White.

what the fuck is it with sports shows and their caliendo obsession? i saw an ESPN "top ten" on sportscenter the other night and #6 or something was frank caliendo doing some lame impressions during a radio show. i'm so sick of this guy.
― omar little, Friday, 17 October 2008 20:26 (fifteen years ago) link
his shit reminds me of people losing their shit over tina fey doing palin on snl. yeah the impressions are good but there are no jokes there at all
― kawał dobrej piosenki (J0rdan S.), Friday, 17 October 2008 20:27 (fifteen years ago) link
the jokes come easy for palin and the lols are timely and her impression is A+, though, whereas caliendo is still doing tony soprano and donald trump.
― omar little, Friday, 17 October 2008 20:29 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah the lols are timely thing is big. i mean these dudes commercials are him doing seinfeld and clinton!!

didn't he like apologize for how often his commercials are on tv recently?
― the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 17 October 2008 21:19 (fifteen years ago) link
I admire Caliendo. He strikes me as a guy who knows exactly how limited his skills are, and yet he's parlayed that into a career that doesn't require him to constantly do impressions on local sports talk shows at 5 in the morning anymore. He is like the David Eckstein of comedy ... a talentless, hardworking guy who is overrated by the morons who run our culture.
― polyphonic, Friday, 17 October 2008 23:24 (fifteen years ago) link
I still kinda like impressionists! The entire joke is the impression. I used to love Rich Little growing up despite the fact that he had no jokes either /doctro morbs.
I don't have cable so I rarely see him but I get a kick out of him when I do.
