this is quite a saga. also, nfl owners are a grotesque microcosm of the disease of american megacapitalist shitheads and reading about them talking and interacting is nauseating

Texans players wanted to walkout today in response to owner Bob McNair’s comments, per @sarahbarshop. Had to be persuaded to stay.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) October 27, 2017

The stories about the poor play in last nights game are good reading. It almost seems when these old guys all walk away in a few years like Eli, Brees, Big Ben, Brady and Rivers the NFL is going to be really absent of that many people that can actually play QB in the 'modern sense'.
Might want to start stocking up, the age of the running back might be coming back.
― earlnash, Saturday, 28 October 2017 03:17 (six years ago) link
what do you mean? how do wentz, prescott, cousins, watson not qualify? maybe i don't understand what QB in a modern sense means (is more mobile qb postmodern?)
― Mordy, Saturday, 28 October 2017 03:23 (six years ago) link
with watson, goff and wentz coming thru this year in particular it feels like there's been a bit of a qb resurgence. apparently the incoming class for the next draft looks a bit sad tho.
― Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 28 October 2017 03:30 (six years ago) link
not to mention that wilson, carr, winston + others will continue to be exciting qb talents

i love watching tyrod taylor too. also i think kaep should absolutely be on an nfl roster. how about instead of siemian or brissett or kizer whatever terrible thing is supposed to be happening in SF

lots of rumors about megatron coming to philly?????
― Mordy, Monday, 30 October 2017 16:52 (six years ago) link
482 yards for the loins last night; no TDs
― mookieproof, Monday, 30 October 2017 17:08 (six years ago) link
jax and philly are the two names that seem to come up most and that would be a p straight decision between cash and a championship run. best spot would prob be seattle but i don't expect he's coming back for $1m. if he's playing the super bowl odds then pburgh might be his bet bet but with their recent wr fun it's not clear that would be a smart move. pats could actually use him more than any other contender except seattle but there is no way that is happening.
i'm not convinced the eagles need him, or that the value he'd bring would necessarily be worth the disruption to an offense that ain't broke, but it would be v cool, on which basis i am all for it.

ajayi is an iggle?!?!?!?!
― Mordy, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 17:00 (six years ago) link
seems like a decent deal for both but not exciting for miami, potentially v exciting for philly
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 17:12 (six years ago) link
also a no-lose trade, miami can't jeopardise an offense they don't have and a low 4th is nothing for a high upside player on a buttons deal for another year and a half
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 17:14 (six years ago) link
blount has been a serviceable runner but ajayi should be able to do some great things w/ philly o-line and i'm particularly excited about his pass blocking - should be a great upgrade for wentz. he also catches out of the backfield which is nice.
― Mordy, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 17:16 (six years ago) link
denver starting osweiler vs eagles. congrats on 8-1. broncos offense dismantled dallas week 2, i would love to know how they got from there to here. can't blame them for making a qb change, even if it is hard to imagine a switch to osweiler being an improvement over anything. the last two games have been totally abject on that side of the ball.

idk how i feel about this jimmy g thing for the niners.. seems like a desperate move to fill seats for the remainder of the season. we'll see i guess
― brimstead, Wednesday, 1 November 2017 15:43 (six years ago) link
i know that article was more meant to be fun rather than factual, and it was. complaining about an unambitious offense but acknowledging horrendous quarterbacking - not sure the solution to beathard not being able to even complete a dump off is to have him fire off some sideline bombs (to their no receivers). also, describing garoppolo as "just a back up" is p bad faith, as if not beating out a HOFer for the #1 job is a blemish on his nfl career to date.
fwiw i think signing garoppolo was by far the niners' best choice in this situation, and getting him now vs after the season makes better logistic sense and also sets up next year better, since this year is obv a wash anyhow. i don't know how he'll turn out but if he left in the summer he'd have got paid a huge contract for what he might be. now he has to go out and play on a horrendous defense and either that'll be half a season that cools down the contract expectations or he'll look worth the huge contract, so it's advantageous to SF either way.
― Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 1 November 2017 15:55 (six years ago) link
yeah it's just a longshot w/ garaoppolo i think - more a sign of desperation. i don't really blame them at all esp w/ beathard's performance. but being hopeful bc the guy succeeded as a qb on a belichick offense for a couple weeks is def high hopes.
― Mordy, Wednesday, 1 November 2017 15:57 (six years ago) link
much less of a long shot than drafting a qb with that same pick. no one can claim to know how he'll be for sure but the hype is not just based on 2 nfl starts.
