NY Giants at New Orleans (-3)
San Fran at STL (-7.5)
Arizona (-4.5) at Cleveland
Cincy at Pittsburgh (toss-up, apparently?)
San Diego at Baltimore (-3)
Houston at Tennessee (also no line)
NY Jets (-1.5) at Oakland
Seattle (-6) at Dallas
Pack (-3) at Denver

Indianapolis at Carolina (-5)

5 points seems low for Carolina at home vs. Indy

lol @ no line for Houston vs. Tennessee. I imagine it's because Houston's QB situation is a coinflip but I imagine it's because who the hell would put action on that game?

frogbs, Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:55 (eight years ago) link

imagine the former is oddsmakers being conservative bc i think some ppl still dont believe the panthers are for real and also still can't believe the presumed-frontrunner colts are actually pretty bad this year. -7.5 would make more sense imo

re: the latter - no fucking clue beyond your "who gives enough of a shit to bet" guess

fascinating vignette from in amongst the various waffling on the news that greg hardy is officially a gigantic asshole now that he shoved a coach (because that's the most fucked up thing he has done recently right):

In the last week of the season, on a Friday, according to a player who witnessed the entire incident, [Jeremiah] Ratliff showed up to practice and was behaving belligerently toward players and coaches. The coaching regime, then led by Marc Trestman, would not allow him to practice.

Ratliff went ballistic, this player said, and was asked to leave practice. He departed but later returned. Practice was stopped and most players went off to the side while a small group of players and coaches tried to calm Ratliff down and get him to leave.

It didn't work initially. Ratliff destroyed the game clock on the practice field, smashing it and kicking it. Later, he shoved an assistant coach to the ground. While all of this went on, Trestman never intervened. He just stood off to the side and watched.

And this is the most incredible part. The uber-enabling part. Not only was Ratliff never punished by Trestman...he was named one of the captains the next day. The entire locker room was incredulous.

Trestman justified making Ratliff a captain by saying he brought intensity, but no player bought that. That move, the player said, led to Trestman officially losing the locker room. Trestman was fired soon after.

along the same lines, charlie pierce on hardy just being the most egregious recent example of the inherent character of football http://grantland.com/the-triangle/the-legacy-of-the-nfl-sin-eaters/

not that anyone cares but the consistenly misfiring lions offence has led to Joe Lombardi the oc being fired and the qb coach JIM BOB COOTER being promoted

I gotta wonder at one point does the NFL start to lose fans as it has become such a never ending parade of ugliness.

NE not looking flamboyantly dominant on offense like most of 2007 but lowest scoring game so far had 4 TDs so even tho it looks kinda rough at times they are really scoring. defense seems to be improving through the season. outside a brady injury, maybe gronk, if the wheels come off it'll most likely be that depleted o-line. they finished the game with 5 standing so the realms of a TE at tackle or a guy starting off the street are certainly possible. would be lame for this season to end with brady getting beaten senseless every week behind some ragtag scrubs.

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 30 October 2015 03:38 (eight years ago) link

offense feels kinda unstoppable when dion lewis is in there -- he seems like the perfect patriots back. when it's legarrette running into the line and falling ahead for 4 yards it starts to feel a bit bogged down.

J0rdan S., Friday, 30 October 2015 04:31 (eight years ago) link

i'll be interested in seeing who can challenge the pats thru the air. still feel like there's not a lot of talent in the secondary and even the LBs i think can be tested. if 2015 regular season andy dalton can play like this in the playoffs i feel like aj green & eifert and those guys could really put some pressure on them.

yeah its weird they just keep scoring constantly w/o seeming quite dominant, like it felt like the dolphins p much held them in check in the first half but they still had 17 offensive points, theyve scored in every quarter this season except the first, they had a game where they scored on every drive

lag∞n, Friday, 30 October 2015 05:39 (eight years ago) link

imo the lack of dominance is due to the offensive line sinking drives on a fairly regular basis. with lafell back and amendola having a really strong stretch of play this is as good a group of skill players as they've had since whenever gronk and hernandez were both healthy and available.

xp ah my bad

slothroprhymes, Friday, 30 October 2015 15:03 (eight years ago) link

of all the teams in the AFC i feel like denver could maybe give the patriots the best game only because they have one of the best front four pass rushes and secondaries in the nfl, which i think is the defensive blueprint to slow the pats down on offense. but denver's offense is pretty bad yeah, though i think maybe as they abandon all kubiak things and shift back into peyton as offensive coordinator mode it might bump up slightly.

J0rdan S., Friday, 30 October 2015 15:08 (eight years ago) link
