It's a lot easier to rack up big passing yardage when your receivers run for most of them after making the reception.

i'm trying to understand this - so yards after catch is cheating somehow?

a big part of being a good QB is being able to find players and space and hit them in stride (the biggest factor in YAC)

here's the top 10 teams for yards after catch:

Rank Team Yards after Catch
1 Kansas City Chiefs 2700
2 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2623
3 Green Bay Packers 2485
4 Cincinnati Bengals 2423
5 Las Vegas Raiders 2357
6 Los Angeles Chargers 2350
7 Arizona Cardinals 2307
8 San Francisco 49ers 2264
9 Dallas Cowboys 2207
10 Los Angeles Rams 2145

here's the top 10 passers:

Tom Brady
5316

Justin Herbert
5014

Matthew Stafford
4886

Patrick Mahomes
4839

Derek Carr
4804

Joe Burrow
4611

Dak Prescott
4449

Josh Allen
4407

Kirk Cousins
4221

Aaron Rodgers
4115

so, it's correlating (josh allen excepting - bills yac is #20) that the best QBs have the most YAC, presumably because of accuracy/timing/etc (could be speed but for example tyreek hill is not high up on the YAC list and he's generally considered maybe the fastest person in the NFL)

over the course of a full season, sure. I think the point he was trying to make is that there is a lot of variance when you add in YAC. I just thought the stat was funny considering that, y'know, the Bears could've had Mahomes

frogbs, Monday, 24 January 2022 20:00 (four years ago)

yards after catch is cheating somehow?

I was more trying to respond that a weird made-up stat like 'passing yardage gained per minute of clock time' is not a reliable measure of quarterback skill, compared to, well, any QB stat that's widely used and recognized. It's striking, but it's not a good measure of anything. What's more telling are the number of points scored by KC in that amount of time.

placing the ball so your receiver can avoid getting hit and gain yards after the catch is indeed a skill, idk what that was upthread

what's really striking to me about all this is remembering when Rodgers came into the league; here was this guy who was supposed to be the first overall pick, and instead he just kept sliding and sliding until he finally got picked by the Packers, who made him sit for 3 years behind a guy who didn't really seem interested in training him for the starting role. there was this sense that he'd gotten screwed and he was asked about it in interviews all the time. and he actually handled them really well, basically saying "look, I'm going to be the starter, nobody on this planet is going to feel sorry for me so I won't feel sorry for myself". dude would not entertain any of the drama. I know that was a while ago but going from that to "Help! I'm being cancelled! Nobody likes me because they can't handle my opinions!!!" is pretty nuts. I can only imagine the shit that's gone on behind the scenes.

frogbs, Wednesday, 26 January 2022 03:29 (four years ago)

seems like he's been drama for a long time, throwing stuff on the sideline, pissed at his teammates and coaches for letting HIM down. this is not a reveal.

bulb after bulb, Wednesday, 26 January 2022 03:41 (four years ago)

nah in fact there's a good argument to be made for Mercedes Lewis' fumble losing GB the game because it guaranteed that Rodgers was never gonna throw to him again. I remember a few years back some receiver running the wrong route leading to an ugly looking pick and Rodgers like, wouldn't throw it to him again until 5 weeks later. I think it was Valdez-Scantling actually. Who by the way was also open on like 20 different pass plays

funny thing is Favre was the exact opposite, if a player fumbled he would pretty much always throw it back to him right away the next series

frogbs, Wednesday, 26 January 2022 03:49 (four years ago)

His family fumbled the pronunciation of its own name

I'm sure Favre is a trump goon but I at least get him, he's just a dumb hick with a drinking problem, Rodger's whole "I'm the only one who sees through the Matrix" schtick is more annoying to me

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 26 January 2022 04:39 (four years ago)

Yeah he absolutely had that “one of us” factor among rural Wisconsinites which endeared him to Packer fans more than Rodgers ever could. There was so much Favre shit everywhere you went. When he retired (lol) the overall
mood was as if someone died. Somehow I don’t think Rodgers is gonna be missed that much, despite being way better

Joe Burrow making the Super Bowl would be really cool

frogbs, Sunday, 30 January 2022 20:03 (four years ago)

Yea I want Bengs-49ers

Bengals would probably be the worst team to make an SB in years though. Offense is legit, o line is terrible, defense shaky
