I hate to say it, but I just think Dallas is loaded for bear this year. They seemed to have fixed the sieve of a defense and that big o-line is healthy again.

Cousins is good but just not quite good enough. I'd say he is a bit better but not totally similar to Andy Dalton, who put up some big games and numbers at times for the Bengals but seemed to wilt when the really big games happened. Bengals really could never get totally over B-more or Pittsburgh in their division. Perhaps not as big on the passing numbers, but Alex Smith was the same way in KC, very efficient but not really able to get them over the top either.

Hatcats have gone 19-37 since they decided to pass. Got to think the Vikings for all those skills players and defensive prowess would have probably been kinda similar without him.

Damned if you do have him and definitely damned if you don't.

NFL is weird though, explain why Tom Brady is having fits with NO. Saints won yesterday with Trevor Siemian, who had not really played much in 3 years. Siemian looked pretty decent too.

earlnash, Tuesday, 2 November 2021 01:51 (four years ago)

Vikings are in a similar boat as Bengals. They got one team in division with the Packers that are almost always there at the top and they pretty much fight for 2nd every year with the Bears. Minnesota has a hard time getting it all together at once, one year their defense is good and then one year their offense is good and then one year they are awesome and then special teams or something stupid happens.

How many wins would the Bears have had if they EVER had someone like Cousins? When your best for the last 30 years is Jimmy Mac and Jay Cutler - you suck. Bears pretty much have to win ugly to win.

earlnash, Tuesday, 2 November 2021 01:57 (four years ago)

basically under ideal circumstances, he has the ability to be great - good protection, clean pocket, receivers getting separation, etc. i've seen him throw some incredible passes.

however, being able to do it under non-ideal circumstances is kinda..the whole deal.

lol yeah i was like . . . me too

i don't think it's fair to call the stafford trade 'the best(/worst) in history' (that is the herschel trade, fwiw).

if the rams win this year, then okay, because flags fly forever. but given the choice of going 0-8 with a bunch of picks + goff or 2-6 (at best) with stafford, i'll take the former. perhaps they could have gotten more, but it wasn't a bad deal for detroit.

(granted, the lions will blow those draft picks -- because they're the lions -- but still)

and if the rams *don't* win this year, stafford is suddenly 34 and more prone to aging like eli/roffles than he is to aging like brady.

mookieproof, Tuesday, 2 November 2021 02:11 (four years ago)

Lol mookie trust me you don't have to remind me about the Herschel walker trade believe me

That one is such a ridiculous outlier and isn't even conceivable in the modern NFL

But yes it's part of Vikings "lore"

Just crazy, teams value draft picks way too much now, and obviously the way rookie contracts are structured now it would be pretty much impossible to get this kind of hall for any player. jesse solomon and ike holt were good players too..3 firsts and 3 seconds, dang

jesse solomon, ike holt and david howard were solid players too, was reading their wikis and this deal kind of fucked up their careers because when they got to dallas, johnson kept them on the bench because he wanted to cut them to get the picks

To Dallas Cowboys
LB Jesse Solomon
LB David Howard
CB Issiac Holt
DE Alex Stewart
Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1990
Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1990
Minnesota's 6th round pick in 1990
Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1991 (conditional on cutting Solomon)
Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1991 (conditional on cutting Howard)
Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1992 (conditional on cutting Holt)
Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1992 (condition met by trading away Nelson)
Minnesota's 3rd round pick in 1992 (conditional on cutting Stewart)

it is kind of insane how prized top-tier running backs were back then, like they truly could be the difference maker, so you could see teams overspending for one. RB stock really dropped a lot in the last decade in the NFL given the drift to pass-happy offenses due to the QB renaissance.

the utility infielder of theatre (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 2 November 2021 17:16 (four years ago)

Yeah I mean you *might* have been able to get this for Mahomes after he won the Super Bowl but I'd guess you'd be hard pressed to get a #1 for any running back now

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 2 November 2021 17:38 (four years ago)

I was just wondering the other day why you so rarely see franchise running backs like Adrian Peterson anymore, then Derrick Henry got injured and I guess I got my answer. I don't know if linebackers are just that much bigger and faster than they were 20 years ago but it does seem like you can't just feed it to your guy 30+ times a game like you could in the Priest Holmes days. Though if you read the stories of what Priest's life is like now...yikes

frogbs, Tuesday, 2 November 2021 17:44 (four years ago)

Until this year, the Vikings and Dalvin Cook... maybe Carolina and McCaffrey, but yeah building an offense around the running back is rare now

Plus they usually only get the second contract then after that are just scrapping around the league

both those guys are in their 3rd or 4th year as a starter so I guess the real test comes now. like I know a lot of Packer fans are still excited about Aaron Jones but the way the modern NFL is he may only have one more good year in him. it's pretty brutal.

the utility infielder of theatre (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 3 November 2021 14:35 (four years ago)

all that bluster and DeShaun Watson didn't move. Texans really fucked this one up badly.

i'm kinda glad cos I don't want Watson playing anyway but i also didn't want him on my team.

the utility infielder of theatre (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 3 November 2021 14:37 (four years ago)

Rodgers has Covid and will be out vs. the Chiefs. I actually kinda think this is good, Packers kinda need to know what Love is gonna look like as a starter and the Chiefs seem like a good defense to get your feet wet against

frogbs, Wednesday, 3 November 2021 15:02 (four years ago)

i wanna know what Love is

the utility infielder of theatre (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 3 November 2021 15:06 (four years ago)

rodgers apparently is not vaxxed, despite telling reporters he was “immunized” in august

grove street (party) direction (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 3 November 2021 15:15 (four years ago)

he was "immunized" by the lord

the utility infielder of theatre (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 3 November 2021 15:15 (four years ago)

yeah if he used "immunized" to mean he had it already then that's pretty sneaky. I am guessing he is gonna want to clear this up, if he's missing a big game against the Chiefs cuz he's an idiot that seems like a big deal

frogbs, Wednesday, 3 November 2021 15:18 (four years ago)

not a surprise from him.

bulb after bulb, Wednesday, 3 November 2021 15:25 (four years ago)

Rodgers definitely seems like a headcase but he reveals so little about himself that it's easy to hide. I do find it a little curious that he seems to have bad relationships with his entire family, several of his ex-teammates, the Packers front office, plus he's kinda had a lot of famous ex-girlfriends

frogbs, Wednesday, 3 November 2021 15:37 (four years ago)

all this talk of the discount double check and it turns out he didn’t do the most important double check of them all (two shots of the covid vaccine)

grove street (party) direction (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 3 November 2021 15:39 (four years ago)

he got the Rodgers Rate (of infection)

What it's like. Havana Syndrome. What it's like. Havana Syndrom (Sufjan Grafton), Wednesday, 3 November 2021 16:28 (four years ago)

if this is true I wonder if the NFL is gonna fine him. seems like he's been violating protocol in all these interviews.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Eric Bauman said in court today that former Raiders' WR Henry Ruggs was traveling at 156 MPH before the car crash that left a 23-year-old woman dead, and Ruggs' blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.

banner day for the nfl

Major add to the Rodgers story here from @RobDemovsky.

This summer, Rodgers petitioned the NFL to have an “alternative treatment” count as a vaccination. The NFL denied his request and has considered him unvaccinated since the start of the season.https://t.co/GybsVt7RJc pic.twitter.com/LXufOZlMLe

With respect to Rodgers, I think it's important to remember that Shailene Woodley "makes her own medicines" (and "eats clay")

exactly. a vast number of celebs aren't vaccinated & then even w/in that bubble shailene woodley seems particularly coocoo. also miles teller who rodgers was very publicly hanging out w/ when he was trying to force a trade cost a movie studio millions of dollars after they had to shut a movie down bcuz he was unvaccinated and got covid

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 3 November 2021 17:57 (four years ago)

this is extra funny because the league has been hyping up the Rodgers vs. Mahomes match all season

frogbs, Wednesday, 3 November 2021 19:04 (four years ago)

rogers got homeopathic treatment, apparently

das bad

lag∞n, Wednesday, 3 November 2021 22:27 (four years ago)

even back in 2008 when he became the starter I remember hearing a bunch of stories about him and getting the impression that he was....well, not an asshole exactly, but definitely a genuine eccentric.

the story I keep coming back to is Rodgers telling someone on the 49ers during a game that they should sign Greg Jennings, who was in a contract year (and the Packers #1 receiver at the time). I don't know how much that influenced Jennings' decision to leave but I'm guessing it didn't help. Rodgers says it never happened but it doesn't sound like something you'd just make up

frogbs, Wednesday, 3 November 2021 23:47 (four years ago)

seeing a lot of suggestions that Rodgers gets fined and/or suspended, but for what exactly? the league knew his status. it's only public knowledge now because he got the virus. if he hadn't no one would have known! Rodgers is a conniving dickhead for doing this, but the league sucks for letting this fly for so long.

frogbs, Friday, 5 November 2021 02:08 (four years ago)

Last year the Raiders, Broncos, and Saints paid hundreds of thousands in fines and lost draft picks for protocol violations. I'd expect something similar. I'm not sure if Rodgers will be suspended though.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Friday, 5 November 2021 02:15 (four years ago)

Rodgers: "Thanks for giving me a good rate."

STATE FARM: "Ummm...I'm sorry our actuary says you are a risk, we have to raise your rates."
