That didn't take long. Manny Diaz bailed on his brand new Temple job and went back to the U.

Clemson didn't score very many points when Julian Love was on the field. It was probably the worst player for us to lose in that game. It is true that we didn't have the luxury to replace a draft pick suspended for doping with another, just later-projected, draft pick. Depth will always be a weakness for us, and the best teams have it.
We also had some pretty iffy calls go against us. The kickoff fumble recovery that was overturned for being out of bounds and the "incomplete" pass during our last gasp drive looked pretty bad on the jumbotron.
Chip Long had a terrible game, though. I don't know what to think of that guy anymore.

following Florida's beatdown of Michigan, these match-ups made for a long day of boring foobaw

Ohio State lost by more points to Purdue than ND did to Clemson. Georgia lost twice. The playoff committee's choices clearly give weight to the regular season games.

The kickoff fumble recovery that was overturned for being out of bounds
Yep, the nose of that football was over the white, so it was Clemson's ball. Sorry.
I didn't see the incomplete pass because I'd stopped watching closely by then.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 31 December 2018 21:47 (five years ago) link
Yeah, the high contrast sideline took that fumble away from ND, because about a half inch of the ball crossed the line and it stood out boldly against the white. As no one says, it's a game of half inches.

that oregon fake fg/fake punt/fake something was among the worst things i've ever seen

bowl games are for the players to have fun. winning is fun, but so are trick plays, if they work.
― A is for (Aimless), Monday, 31 December 2018 23:32 (five years ago) link
damn there was just a hit in the ok st/mizzou game that pained me thru my tv

#actually, bowl games are for alumni to go somewhere nice* and party, making money for people who don't deserve it
bad trick play and 7-6 score aside, the ducks did prevail and will be able to tell their grandchildren that on the final day of 2018 AD, they lifted the moribund reputation of the pac-12 and claimed the REDBOX BOWL title

the sideline and goal line are different. there is no infinite plane extending above the sideline. for example, you can hold the ball over the sideline while your feet are in bounds, and you won't be ruled out of bounds.
― Sufjan Grafton, Tuesday, 1 January 2019 16:05 (five years ago) link
it was super close.. i think an angle may have shown it graze the sideline
― johnny crunch, Tuesday, 1 January 2019 20:38 (five years ago) link
Alabama shouldn't be here.
― Sufjan Grafton, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 02:30 (five years ago) link
The Tide's highly vaunted defense has not been very effective, yet.
― A is for (Aimless), Tuesday, 8 January 2019 02:32 (five years ago) link
ND defense was much more effective (when Julian Love was on the field)
― Sufjan Grafton, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 02:35 (five years ago) link
Clemson's disguised coverages are top notch tonight.

Burnt Lunchables seems to be good at defense
― Sufjan Grafton, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 02:44 (five years ago) link
I think Oklahoma did Clemson a favor by scoring so often on Bama, so it got onto video they could study.
― A is for (Aimless), Tuesday, 8 January 2019 02:50 (five years ago) link
Or their defense lulled bama's offense to sleep
― Sufjan Grafton, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 02:52 (five years ago) link
Real question is should the losing team even be here?
― Sufjan Grafton, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 02:56 (five years ago) link
Ain't nobody only scored 3 points but ND, buddy.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 03:16 (five years ago) link
Bama might wish they scored those 3 points
― Sufjan Grafton, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 03:32 (five years ago) link
Chip Long esque call
That was dumbbbbbbb
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 03:34 (five years ago) link
My heart can't take the most talented Tide team of my lifetime going down like this.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 03:37 (five years ago) link
this is wild. what happened to the bama defense?!
― Дарья (daria-g), Tuesday, 8 January 2019 03:41 (five years ago) link
It can happen. The distribution of the score differential of any good game is wide, if nearly zero mean, for these young players, and we only get one sample.
― Sufjan Grafton, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 03:43 (five years ago) link
Also still feels like bama can win. Would be the only story better than the uga game.
― Sufjan Grafton, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 03:45 (five years ago) link
yeah, they've been moving the ball but nothing to show for it
― Дарья (daria-g), Tuesday, 8 January 2019 03:54 (five years ago) link
roll ti...gers
― johnny crunch, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 03:55 (five years ago) link
holy shit that catch
― Sufjan Grafton, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 03:59 (five years ago) link
This isn't quite as bad as the moment I realized Hillary was going to lose, but it's right up there.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 04:01 (five years ago) link
4 scores ahead. This shit's done.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 04:06 (five years ago) link
On the whole, I think the Bama players are as talented. Much as the Tide fans may not want to think it, this was mostly about coaching and preparation, not ability.
― A is for (Aimless), Tuesday, 8 January 2019 04:07 (five years ago) link
Yep.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 04:09 (five years ago) link
i remember the start of february 2008 i was like omfg we could have a woman president AND the pats go 19-0

― A is for (Aimless), Tuesday, 8 January 2019 04:18 (five years ago) link
The players can be talented and have a bad game. Tua had a bad game.
― Sufjan Grafton, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 04:21 (five years ago) link
idk bama might be cursed now
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 04:26 (five years ago) link
bama oline got destroyed
likely rightly so imo, how good bama was all season up til now will be forgotten
― johnny crunch, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 04:28 (five years ago) link
The team on the field tonight look like strangers to me vs the team I saw win 14 other games this year.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 04:33 (five years ago) link
they spent the second half imagining dragons
― Sufjan Grafton, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 04:43 (five years ago) link
its like i always say keep your mind on the game not dragons
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 04:46 (five years ago) link
Never challenged all year. Repeatedly given wedgies in the National Championship Game. Congratulations, Clemson Tigers! You won out in grand style.
― A is for (Aimless), Tuesday, 8 January 2019 04:47 (five years ago) link
xp no dragons and for gods sake don't lose by more than ND, a team we all agreed should not have been there
― Sufjan Grafton, Tuesday, 8 January 2019 04:48 (five years ago) link

I hope Saban takes a private jet back to Tuscaloosa, because there are players and coaches at risk of being thrown out of the team jet somewhere over Missouri.
