i'm really excited to see how the browns screw up this year in spite of the huge influx of talent they're accumulating
― Mordy, Thursday, 26 April 2018 17:04 (six years ago) link
feels primed for a couple of teams to do something crazy and/or stupid and the browns always have to factor into that conversation

NFL.com reporter Ian Rapoport suggested the offensive tweets wouldn’t cause Allen’s stock to drop in Thursday’s first round.
bullshit
― Mordy, Thursday, 26 April 2018 18:52 (six years ago) link
now all the scouts who raved about allen can cite the tweets as an excuse for why he didn't go higher instead of the numerous red flags in his skillset and past performance

Josh Allen money coming in to be the 1st pick right now. Down to +500. Baker Mayfield the -250 favorite. Action insane.— Dave Mason (@DaveMasonBOL) April 26, 2018

There's no position harder to draft correctly than QB and the Browns front office has a dismal record at sniffing out who can make the jump to the pros. I give Mayfield about 4 to 1 against his being a franchise QB, but no QB pick is ever much better than 50-50, so every dip in the QB draft pool is a gamble.
I would have picked Saquan Barkley as a sure thing and taken whatever top QB prospect was left on the board by the time their next pick came around, but I have no illusions that I'd do better than the Browns front office irl.

I like the Bears getting Roquan Smith from Georgia. That guy was pretty impressive in the games I saw.

My favorite part of that Baker Mayfield photo thing is the Wes Anderson level of background details. Especially his buddy with the blond wig.

jason witten retiring. HOF career no doubt but cowboys have added by subtracting two real albatrosses from last season now.

NFL is definitely moving closer and closer to pro wrestling, but this was pretty funny. Did not hear about the Drew Pearson appearance in Philly last draft.

projected strength of schedule for next year, using vegas lines
With a foundation as to the projected 2018 wins, we can now calculate a proper Strength of Schedule. You can filter by month (or by week). Here's the link: https://t.co/8bPjdEE1oz pic.twitter.com/mbHz9MJh8b— Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball) April 30, 2018

yea I know I'm probably the 1000000th person to make that observation but still
Browns V.P. of player personnel Alonzo Highsmith had plenty to say on Monday about how the team settled on quarterback Baker Mayfield. Highsmith also shared some insights on why the Browns didn’t settle on quarterback Josh Rosen.“I was at an airport,” Highsmith said Monday at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Luncheon Club, via the Canton Repository. “UCLA’s volleyball team was in front of me. You heard so much about Rosen. He’s this or that. We all know how people talk.“So I asked one of the volleyball coaches, ‘What’s Rosen like?’ He said, ‘Aaaa, you should probably ask his girlfriend. She’s one of the players. She’s over there.’“I’m like, ‘All right coach. That’s good enough.’ . . . I don’t know what all this means, but there was something about him that bothered me.”

why is it that every time someone in the browns front office has opened their mouth since the draft it has been to spout some dumbass reason for why they picked mayfield or didn't pick another guy. it almost seems too much, like it's an elaborate troll, but the simplest answer is browns
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 1 May 2018 18:12 (six years ago) link
Josh Rosen rules and I'm glad he didn't go to that cursed franchise full of idiots who make personnel decisions for literally no reason
this is actually dumber than the time they drafted Johnny Football because some homeless guy told them to do it
― frogbs, Tuesday, 1 May 2018 18:18 (six years ago) link
It’s insane, they didn’t pass on him based on his gf’s opinion, they passed based on her volleyball coach not having an opinion. I can’t even believe I read that. If Rosen turns into Wentz or even Goff I hope everyone is fired.
― omar little, Tuesday, 1 May 2018 19:04 (six years ago) link
And yeah at least the homeless guy had an opinion
Nah, Baker Mayfield’s legit. The Browns are fine.
― Mr. Snrub, Tuesday, 1 May 2018 20:37 (six years ago) link
he's a legit talent for sure not sure if he has the right personality tho to be a franchise qb esp for the browns
― Mordy, Tuesday, 1 May 2018 20:42 (six years ago) link
the Browns may be fine I'm just surprised that a franchise known for blowing draft picks would publicly admit that their due diligence with a top ten QB prospect partially included their VP of player personnel deciding to not walk a few yards to talk to someone who intimately knew the QB because he didn't like how someone else phrased their non-opinion.
― omar little, Tuesday, 1 May 2018 21:24 (six years ago) link
It seems like a good sign that the Pats targeted Mayfield imo

"I don’t know what all this means"
― brimstead, Tuesday, 1 May 2018 21:26 (six years ago) link
not sure how real the pats' reported interest was, mayfield's ppl basically made them qualify their interest to even let them meet with him, so they had to say something.
most ppl i respect are saying 1) the real unknown with him is how much you can separate his great #s from lincoln riley and 2) the browns will need to develop an offense around him and not just try to cram him in whatever system. so i think the key to whether he has a successful career is who cle hire to replace hue when he gets fired midseason.
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 1 May 2018 22:27 (six years ago) link
Im glad my job wasn't to have to pick out of those QBs, as all of them seem flawed in personality or game.
― earlnash, Wednesday, 2 May 2018 12:23 (six years ago) link
As of now, I kinda think the Ravens with Lamar Jackson might have had the best qb pick from where it was on the draft.
― earlnash, Wednesday, 2 May 2018 12:28 (six years ago) link
yeah thru the whole thing i am sure the niners/lynch were feeling extremely pleased with themselves
