John Goodman is now coaching the Raiders or at least they should get him to play this dude in the TV movie.

Too much to quote but wow at:
"He sez does that mean I don't get paid? I sez, that's what I'm saying to you. I said, I warned you."

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 1 October 2008 06:18 (seventeen years ago)

lolz at "it's based on cause... it's not necessarily based on performance" and at him arguing that he wanted to keep moss!

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 1 October 2008 06:40 (seventeen years ago)

and the awesome grand finally:
"we let kerry collins go... he's driving tennessee pretty good right now... and uh... we'll get back. We'll be back, the raiders will be back; that's uh... I have unshakable confidence, the will to win"

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 1 October 2008 06:42 (seventeen years ago)

the only way that that quote could be any better is if he had a picture of collins flash up on the projector

poetry unit (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 1 October 2008 06:44 (seventeen years ago)

this looks like a guy with his own cable access show, the lolhueg sweater, the projection screen behind him instead of the standard logo wallpaper, the shitty office depot desk lamp.

Hard to believe this is the same team I remember from the '70s and '80s

Bill Magill, Wednesday, 1 October 2008 18:54 (seventeen years ago)

KIFFIN: "Now, say you're in need of a few points, maybe three, but time's running out on the clock and you're 76 yards away from the end zone. What would be a good way of getting those three points?"

HOST: "Why, I don't know! It seems like you'd try to kick a field goal anyway, but that's just crazy, right?"

KIFFIN: "Absolutely not and here's why..."

☑ (Pleasant Plains), Wednesday, 1 October 2008 18:56 (seventeen years ago)

At his own press conference today, Shanahan was asked about Davis, and he tried to make light of the situation.

“I was really disappointed, to be honest with you,” Shanahan said. “When you take a look at it, I was there 582 days. Lane Kiffin was there 616 days. So what it really means is that Al Davis liked Lane more than he liked me. And I really don’t think that’s fair. I won three more games, yet he got 34 more days of work. That just doesn’t seem right. Does it to you guys? No, really, think about it.”

After getting a chuckle from the media with that, Shanahan continued.

“I know the right thing to say. The thing I should have said is, ‘I haven’t had time to look at interviews and what really happened.’ But I think everybody saw the press conference. We’ll leave it at that.”

Does Shanahan have any advice for Kiffin on getting his money, a reporter asked, drawing laughs from his fellow journalists but not from Shanahan.

"Just take it out of his ass with interest every time you play him. Every. Goddamn. Time. From now until the skies darken and the seas boil. With interest.

Note, Mike Shanahan's Broncos are 21-6 vs the Raiders.

daaaaaamn

I'm the wire monkey, not the soft monkey (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 2 October 2008 00:42 (seventeen years ago)

Okay so I fabricated the quote but the record speaks for itself plus Shanahan would clearly stab Davis to death if given the chance using nothing but beams from his eyes of pure hate.

rogermexico., Thursday, 2 October 2008 02:10 (seventeen years ago)

my favorite thing ever is when tombot compared al davis to frank from Blue Velvet

cankles, Thursday, 2 October 2008 22:05 (seventeen years ago)

Al Davis knows football -- it's just '60s and '70s football. That's what it is. He's thinking that Cliff Branch is outside and <Jim> Plunkett is dropping back and you can throw it 80 yards down the field -- deep ball, deep ball, deep ball.

-- Warren Sapp

polyphonic, Thursday, 2 October 2008 22:55 (seventeen years ago)

Sapp even said that Davis would call in plays when Sapp was playing for the Raiders.

"I remember the first two weeks I was there, we played a preseason game. Somebody came up one time and said, 'We're going deep right here, dog.' I said, how do you know? He said, 'The phone just rang.'
