sportscenter started with a hilarious recap of brett's feb 13th interview where he said he could never ask the jets for his release and that he had absolutely played his last nfl game.

Odds on Farve's 2010 -- 2011 team (after he renounces his retirement from the Vikings):

  • Bears: 3 -- 2
  • Eagles: 6 -- 1
  • Cowboys: 3 -- 1

what if favre is pulling a tony almaeda and is in the midst of being planted by the packer on the vikings so he can sabotage their season - the jets season was his one year "off the grid"

Diehl sat in the audience and placed a dinner order - as Favre, of course. Wearing a Packers hat, he asked for cheese ravioli. And then, he switched to a bacon cheeseburger. But he went back to the ravioli. Then, back to the burger. Then, back to the ravioli. The next thing I knew, he was telling the waitress to forget about his order because he wasn't even hungry, then sobbing, then wearing a Jets hat and finally ordering pizza.

it's just there are so many things about that story. i mean, i can't imagine being at comix. full stop. then i can't imagine being at comix and for some reason my entertainment for the evening was the giants' diehl. then i can't imagine being at comix and for some reason my entertainment for the evening was the giants' diehl doing a really weird extended rip on favre, and boston. so many things have to be going wrong with everything in the time-space continuum for this.

the "forget my order then sobbing" part really makes me wish I could've been there.

One of the skits that had just taken place was a "blooper" video the hosts claimed was put together by the guards at Abu Ghraib prison. It was a bunch of clips of some of the worst sports injuries ever. I'm talking Joe Theismann's broken leg (which actually got an ovation from the Giants fans in attendance - that's cold, man), Napoleon McCallum's dislocated knee (still the worst I've ever seen) and the kickboxer who broke his leg on a kick then tried to stand on it (you know what I'm talking about if you've ever seen it).

Alex in SF, Thursday, 28 May 2009 23:02 (seventeen years ago)

Fran Tarkenton made some serious bank roll in the computer software industry after football (and TV).

I'm all for the old school guys coming out of nowhere and slamming the modern players.

If I was the NFL network I'd have a show where they just have guys like this or Chuck Bednarik just come out and rail on modern football. Cause on the one hand, it is always funny when the old dude lambasts someone and while they are probably much better athletes, most of these guys are way over paid divas and pussies compared to the old dudes.

Ron Yary played for the Vikings from 1968 through 1981. Fran Tarkenton, who has chastised quarterback Brett Favre for the possibility of signing with the Vikings, was quarterback for three of the losing Super Bowl teams Yary played on. Yary, like Tarkenton a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, has great admiration -- and empathy -- for Favre, a future hall of famer. "If the Vikings would have had Brett Favre during the time of my career, we would have been 7-0 in Super Bowls. Absolutely," Yary said.

Count Hall of Fame receiver Michael Irvin among those who think Brett Favre should bag the idea of playing for Minnesota and instead call it a career. "Listen, Favre's 100 years old; stop this already," said Irvin, in Los Angeles to promote his Spike TV reality show "4th and Long." "I love Favre and I think he's been a phenomenal talent for a long time. But when I think about it now, I say, 'Stop it already.' I don't mind that you still want to play football, but do you want to play so much, and you want to get back at [Green Bay General Manager] Ted Thompson so much, that you're willing to go back into Lambeau and hurt those fans that supported you for so long?"

The quarterback is to appear Monday night on the premiere of Joe Buck Live. The HBO sports show is hosted by the longtime baseball and football announcer. HBO says Favre agreed in April to appear on the show at Buck's request. That was before his release from the New York Jets, prompting Minnesota's pursuit of the 39-year-old three-time NFL MVP.

o lorenzopaws:

NEW YORK (AP) — Brett Favre says he is considering coming out of retirement for a second time and the only team he has talked to about a return to the NFL is the Minnesota Vikings. Favre appeared on the new HBO show "Joe Buck Live" in his first public appearance since retiring from the New York Jets in February.

The three-time NFL MVP said Monday night he had surgery 2 1/2 weeks ago on his throwing arm. He says the doctor who performed the surgery on his biceps told him it would take four to five weeks for the NFL's career leader in touchdown passes to know if the procedure was a success. Favre says he has had contact with the Vikings, but "nothing more than are you interested."
