ppl will lol at me for this but tactically the patriots can rarely be accused of hubris; meanwhile mike shanahan's son actually thought he had figured this game out

i have to find a replay on the internets and watch asap. seriously, i know the pats are evil and evil will always triumph but there is no way any team should be able to come back down 25 points in the super bowl what the fuck

paraphrasing what was correctly said about the cubs' world series clincher this past year: joe buck is woefully underqualified to announce games like this.

So, who won? I've just watched two long news reports on the Superbowl, one on BBC, one on Sky, and neither showed so much as a second of the match or told you the result. LOL Britishes.

silver lining to all this is that James White, an ex-Badger, wound up pretty much being the non-Brady MVP, which as a Wisconsin sports fan gives me at least some reason to not hate all this

i just watched the full game and what struck me was definitely how patient new england was.. there wasn't some epic meltdown by atlanta.. just chipped away at it and so many things had to go right for NE, and somehow they did. man. how do you have a 1st down at the 22 and go backwards out of FG range
― evil pats 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆 (daria-g), Tuesday, 7 February 2017 02:19 (seven years ago) link

i don't think anyone has any complaints about the fairness of this result, but current playoff overtime rules don't seem ideal
― mookieproof, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 21:05 (seven years ago) link
i feel like they are in a good place right now. you think both teams should be guaranteed a possession?
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 21:25 (seven years ago) link
yeah, i think so. obviously there's the argument 'play some defense' but i'd like to see both sides forced to do so.
― mookieproof, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 21:36 (seven years ago) link
i was honestly kinda shocked by the sudden death rules, i thought both were going to get at least one possession
― jason waterfalls (gbx), Tuesday, 7 February 2017 21:36 (seven years ago) link
One possession each would be fair. It was clear that the coin toss basically meant game over. As much as I like the result, it's hard to argue that it's the fairest system.

yeah the if a field goal get a second chance but not a td ot rule is kinda odd, they cld just even play a whole quarter wld that be so bad
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 22:49 (seven years ago) link
no idea why they just don't do the college way. its absolutely perfect.
― Spottie, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 22:59 (seven years ago) link
why not just do college rules it is 100x more exciting

it really is perfect idgi
― Spottie, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 23:05 (seven years ago) link
hate the college rules, eliminates special teams.
and hate playing a full quarter, teams are already too tired at the end of 4.
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 23:15 (seven years ago) link
but they still have field goals with college rules?
― Spottie, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 23:28 (seven years ago) link
guaranteed possession and full quarter options make ties more likely, which the league (and americans in general ime) are deathly afraid of
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 23:50 (seven years ago) link
otherwise they are fairest in a vacuum for sure
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 23:52 (seven years ago) link
i'm guessing the nfl doesn't like the way records would be broken with college-style OT, dudes throwing an extra three touchdowns because they started on the 20, etc. but they could also just declare 'these stats don't count' and give the winning team one extra point
― mookieproof, Wednesday, 8 February 2017 00:04 (seven years ago) link
College OT makes stats wacky and for fantasy football, that would be kind of a thing.
The Pro OT as it is now seems reasonable, losing sudden death on a 50 yard FG seemed kinda cheap and this evens it out.
Atlanta could have gotten the ball, but it would not have mattered, that team was half dead tired and the other half had the deer in the head light look. I haven't found the replay yet of that sack Ryan took, but when he got up I swear his eyes looked as googly as that old Reche Caldwell shot for the Pats years back. Ryan KNEW he had seriously f-ed up on that sack. They could have just stopped then...the Falcons were done.
― earlnash, Wednesday, 8 February 2017 00:05 (seven years ago) link
college ot is too gimmicky imo, its like u decided to play some other sport at the end of the game, like penalty shots in soccer
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 8 February 2017 02:08 (seven years ago) link
tbf college overtime football is kind of a cooler sport than regular football
