kaepernick is having a hard time speaking intelligently about what he's trying to do but god bless him for trying
― thrusted pelvis-first back (ulysses), Monday, 29 August 2016 18:39 (nine years ago)
What is Kaepernick thinking right now? He already was toxic in the league because of the relationship stuff and how he handled his injury. This is such a bad time for him to do this.
― reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 30 August 2016 04:13 (nine years ago)
not to cast a gimlet eye on what he's doing, i am into it... but he hasn't been happy there in a good while & given that context it sure feels like something from the Randy Moss "get me outta here" playbook
― Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 30 August 2016 04:33 (nine years ago)
but simultaneously smarter & dumber? if that makes sense?
idk
Even before this went down, there was talk that the Niners might cut CK, I'm sure this is now a more complex PR situation for all involved. And for CK, I'd sadly think there are going to be few clubs that will take a chance on him going forward.
I'm sure his heart was in the right place, but in the end he is just sadly sacrificing his career in vain.
― earlnash, Tuesday, 30 August 2016 12:57 (nine years ago)
i don't know exactly how good kap is as a qb, maybe dead average for the league. at the very least you've got to think there's 10 qbs who he's an upgrade over. this is going to hurt him but it is not going to make him unemployable in the hardest position to fill. it'll be one more thing ppl use against him if he plays badly but it'll be forgotten about if he plays well.
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 30 August 2016 13:07 (nine years ago)
The one tweak CK could have done to his protest that I think would have perhaps worked better was for instead of sitting on the bench would have been to knealt down in prayer for peace and change during the anthem.
That I think would have perhaps gotten as much coverage but perhaps would have taken out the 'disrespecting the flag' angle.
― earlnash, Tuesday, 30 August 2016 13:54 (nine years ago)
but he didn't want to do that
― have you ever even read The Drudge Report? Have you gone on Stormfron (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 30 August 2016 13:57 (nine years ago)
i think more telling than the protest is the response of garbage white athletes i've never heard of (and jim harbaugh).
― nomar, Tuesday, 30 August 2016 15:21 (nine years ago)
i know it's hard to believe but maybe CK is just doing something he thinks is important regardless of how it will impact his career?
― Immediate Follower (NA), Tuesday, 30 August 2016 17:47 (nine years ago)
yup
― Spottie, Tuesday, 30 August 2016 17:50 (nine years ago)
@murphPPressYou could hear a pin drop on field as Bridgewater was tended do on ground -- silence only broken by several F-bombs players screamed#Vikings
that sounds bad
― reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 30 August 2016 19:09 (nine years ago)
Kaep's career is going to be fine, stuff like this always gets blown up in the preseason because there's nothing else to talk about. As Roberto mentioned there are a bunch of teams with bad/unproven QBs, and even though he's been garbage lately there was a time not too long ago where he was spoken of on the same level as Russell Wilson. QBs get a ton of chances in this league...look at Matt Cassell. Or hell, even Tim Tebow.
― frogbs, Tuesday, 30 August 2016 19:23 (nine years ago)
kaep has been garbage at basic QB stuff for like a year and a half now, not just 'lately'.. it's like in "rookie of the year" where he injured his hand again and goes back to being a scrub. idk, he looks completely over his head. and he's the last qb you'd want out there running chip kelly's offense. basically setting him up to fail.
― brimstead, Tuesday, 30 August 2016 19:36 (nine years ago)
he was so fun when he had his confidence and nothing to lose

bummed about teddy, sounds like it is serious.
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 30 August 2016 20:04 (nine years ago)
yeah the dropoff has been quite remarkable but I would guess a lot of teams are banking on the hope that he just didn't mesh well with Chip in 2014 (as a lot of players didn't) and that his shoulder injury in 2015 was worse than we thought. I think he can still be successful with the right coach but I also feel you gotta simplify the playbook a lot for him.
― frogbs, Tuesday, 30 August 2016 20:24 (nine years ago)
he didn't play with chip in 2014
― reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 30 August 2016 20:33 (nine years ago)
and he had a good relationship with Harbaugh iirc
― Spottie, Tuesday, 30 August 2016 20:34 (nine years ago)
shit. I got my teams confused. Ignore that post. I forgot Harbaugh was still there in 2014. And Chip was still with the Eagles. I'm dumb.

do other teams have players threatening to kaep? there's a maybe-practice team player who has been saying he'll sit in the upcoming game and philly media has been reporting it as a breaking story.
― Mordy, Tuesday, 30 August 2016 21:50 (nine years ago)
Bridgewater's injury sounds pretty horrific.

― Spottie, Wednesday, 31 August 2016 19:02 (nine years ago)
So other than NE, who is going to be any good?
I can't really tell at this point.
― earlnash, Thursday, 1 September 2016 04:59 (nine years ago)
green bay probably most promising in the nfc. i think vikings still have a reasonable chance at a wildcard but that division won't put up any resistance otherwise. seattle will still be a force, they do appear to still be declining from their heights but still it is only one year they've had off from the superbowl. i guess carolina have concerns with their secondary now, no josh norman and no safeties. arizona are probably the closest to gb/sea if palmer stays alive.
afc looks generally the worse of the conferences at the top again. hard to know what to expect from denver. pittsburgh i guess? them and the bengals from the north, the ravens seem to have real problems still. maybe one of the teams in the south will be good???
― Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 1 September 2016 13:04 (nine years ago)
Colts maybe? Second Pitt. Figure Hawks should be decent again.

where to buy kaepernick's socks?
― ælərdaɪs (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 1 September 2016 19:29 (nine years ago)
After the head of a national police organization blasted Colin Kaepernick on Thursday for wearing socks with cartoon pigs in police hats, the San Francisco 49ers quarterback said he didn't want the apparel to distract from his protest of racial inequalities in America.
On Instagram, Kaepernick said he wore the socks in practice to make a statement -- but did so before he made a public stance by refusing to stand for the national anthem at preseason games.
According to USA Today, Kaepernick has reportedly worn the socks as early as Aug. 10, but he had not been asked about them. Images of the socks were posted on social media Wednesday night and quickly created a stir.
"It's just ridiculous that the same league that prohibits the Dallas [Cowboys] football club from honoring the slain officers in their community with their uniforms stands silent when Kaepernick is dishonoring police officers with what he's wearing on the field," Bill Johnson, executive director of the National Association of Police Organizations, said, according to USA TODAY Sports.
"I think the league is in a downward spiral regarding their obligations to the public under [commissioner] Roger Goodell, and this is just another example of that."

i had an hour long argument with my conservative mother in law about this
― thrusted pelvis-first back (ulysses), Friday, 2 September 2016 14:35 (nine years ago)
Relatives that watch a lot of Fox News seem to really enjoy arguing. It's like a cult.
Shaun Hill has had one of the stranger yet very long careers in football. It's even different than someone like a career backup like Don Strock who pretty much always played for the same coach and whose career straddled between two Hall of Fame starting QBs.
http://www.nfl.com/player/shaunhill/2504833/profile
Basically the guy was a back up for 5(!) seasons and only threw 1 ball then was a backup in SF. I really only first remember seeing him play that year he played a bunch for the Lions, don't really remember him on the Niners but they are rarely on TV around here and were not very good at all those years.. Odd thing is that he has been kinda effective in some ways at least compared to other long lasting backup QBs. I mean 62% comp. percentage and his QB/Int ratio isn't horrible nor really is an 85.2 career QB rating. I guess the knock is that he took a bunch of sacks, but that is better than throwing an INT I suppose.
― earlnash, Friday, 2 September 2016 22:37 (nine years ago)
Bradford to the Vikings for a 1st and a 4th...yikes!
That's pretty much saying to me, they are not sure Bridgewater will come back and some stories said it might take two years for him to do so since the knee came apart.
Vikings are built to win now as the defense is there and AP isn't going to get younger, so I can kinda see the gamble.
It will be interesting to see how this one plays out.
― earlnash, Saturday, 3 September 2016 15:08 (nine years ago)
Eagles probably weren't going to be there this year anyway, those picks kind of make up some for the haul they gave away to get him from the Rams.
