The boat's been found, along with one survivor. No sign yet of Marquis Cooper or Corey Smith.

this cassel/cutler/whatever soap opera is just beyond bizarre.

peter king brings the heat - crazy inside info on the cutler stuff (cutler apparently asked for a trade weeks ago, when the QB coach left for USC), bart scott signing, canty signing, actual numbers on the haynesworth deal, etc.

skins releasing jason taylor btw - great job guys, way to get value for that 2nd round pick u traded away

i back BIG HOUSH aka the seahawk btw

s1ocki kong country (cankles), Monday, 2 March 2009 23:42 (seventeen years ago)

i don't see either being a serious super bowl contender anytime soon so yeah

vikings are nfc north favorites for sure, would've been runaway favorites imo if they would've signed BIG HOUSH

Funky House, M.D. (J0rdan S.), Monday, 2 March 2009 23:56 (seventeen years ago)

seattle's pretty good tho, i mean i guess mora is a sucky coach but i'm not on the niners bandwagon just yet and the cardinals... i mean who knows. also rams lmao

Funky House, M.D. (J0rdan S.), Monday, 2 March 2009 23:57 (seventeen years ago)

vikes will get fucked by their QB, whoever it is, seahawks will get fucked by general depth and being the seahawks.

He grew in Pussyville. Population: him. (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 00:00 (seventeen years ago)

yeah seahawks is more of a stretch but unless rogers has a good season i don't see how the vikes aren't the overwhelming favorites to win the north

Funky House, M.D. (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

btw i think rosenfels is pretty good

Funky House, M.D. (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 00:02 (seventeen years ago)

yeah what i really mean is there's a particular type of NFC team (non-East divisions) that is good enough to win their division but certainly not good enough to get much of a percentage chance to go deep into the playoffs or win the super bowl. this is what the '08 cards were and pretty much everybody regarded their super bowl run as a flukey and hard to figure thing. i don't begrudge them being there but no one was calling them a contender. y'know?

Funky House, M.D. (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 00:13 (seventeen years ago)

haha well yeah, you'd have to have a hell of a lot of love for carson to want to resign there.

He grew in Pussyville. Population: him. (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 00:17 (seventeen years ago)

i think if a team makes the playoffs, u might as well call them a contender - think of the 07 giants, i remember before their big week 17 game against the perfect pats (lol) I declared that there was not a single solitary fucken chance that they would win the super bowl, so start your dudes and go for history, steal that one game instead of resting up dudes for a low percentage playoff run - lol @ me basically

anyway, i find it pretty easy to imagine the seahawks winning the nfc west in 09, it's a bad division and they were one of the most injured teams in the league last year

otoh it's tough for me to buy into the vikes as long as chilly is coach and they're starting a cipher at QB - i like what rosenfels did in houston but i'm sure minnesota can find a way to transform him into dogshit. green bay and chicago should have a pretty good shot at the division, aaron rodgers v quietly had an excellent season last year (leagues better than favre), what killed GB was their super soft run defense. they're switching to a 3-4 this year and i have no idea how their personnel will adjust

rumors: crennel might accept job as defensive coordinator for the kansas city patriots

итало электро брейк (daria-g), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 05:19 (seventeen years ago)

^^wow

this peter king piece makes a good case for what the pats ended up doing w/ cassell

The eighth pick in the draft last year, defensive end Derrick Harvey, got $17.47 million guaranteed in a contract averaging $4.6 million a year. In essence, in the way the NFL pays rookies, the eighth pick's compensation is equivalent to the combined pay of the 23rd, 34th, 47th and 58th picks. Insane. Imagine if someone tells you they'd trade the eighth pick in the draft for a lower first-round pick and three second-round picks. You'd do it in a second. The Patriots will draft at least a couple of keeper players on Day 1, and they'll have the kind of salary manageability with those players that great teams with big stars have to have.

Funky House, M.D. (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 07:25 (seventeen years ago)

i like this a lot

Source: Giants back Ward to Bucs
By John Clayton

New York Giants running back Derrick Ward cashed in on his 1,025-yard season by reaching a four-year, $17 million contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to a league source.

Though many football people believed he would be going to the Cleveland Browns in free agency, Ward made a visit to the Bucs that convinced him to cancel his other trips. Over the weekend, Ward made a quick visit to the Broncos. He had also been in conversations with the Giants about re-signing.

Basically, the Bucs gave him an offer he couldn't refuse.

In the first year alone, the league source indicated Ward would earn $6 million guaranteed. He'll make $9.25 million over the first two years and $13 million over the first three.

The 228-pound Ward is a power back with plenty of impact. He averaged 5.6 yards per carry. What's more amazing is that he gained 1,025 yards last year even though he only started three games.

In 2007, Ward rushed for 602 yards on 125 caries and had three touchdowns.

NFL stadium going up in LA?

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AuOEHemKjuU4ESVNIoSJyL4dsLYF?slug=ap-nfl-losangeles&prov=ap&type=lgns

mullah mangenius (brownie), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 17:19 (seventeen years ago)

LOS ANGELES (AP)—City Council members in the city of Industry unanimously approved a proposal Thursday for a pro football stadium intended to lure a team back to the Los Angeles area.

The vote helped clear the way for developers of the $800 million venue to begin talks with NFL teams about a possible move to the industrial and warehousing city 15 miles east of Los Angeles.

Majestic Real Estate Co. managing partner John Semcken said the company would begin shopping for a team on April 1, the deadline for opponents of the project to file a lawsuit.

At least eight franchises, including the Oakland Raiders, Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings, have been identified as possible targets for relocation, he said. Developers are confident the NFL would approve a move by a team, he said.

“They understand the stadium, they understand the economic opportunity,” Semcken said. “All they want is certainty. They want to make sure our stadium is getting built.”

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the league was monitoring potential stadium developments in the Los Angeles area but declined to comment on specific sites.

“We would like to return to the area but only under circumstances that would benefit both the community and the NFL,” he said.

Majestic intends to pay for the stadium with private funds and start construction as soon as a team has committed to playing there.

The neighboring cities of Walnut and Diamond Bar, fearing traffic-clogged streets and rowdy fan behavior, have threatened lawsuits to stop the project.

Walnut Councilman Joaquin Lim said officials in his city would likely decide whether to file a lawsuit on Wednesday, after Industry had filed stadium documents with the county. Two Walnut council members were targeted with recall papers this month by critics who said they had not opposed the stadium strongly enough.

Diamond Bar City Manager Jim DeStefano did not return a call seeking comment.

Semcken said Walnut officials have refused to meet with Majestic representatives.

The company had been negotiating with Diamond Bar officials over paying to widen streets and hire additional security guards to ease concerns in that city, he said.

add: regardless cutler's poor character, this situation is at root mcdaniel's and bowlen's fault, i do not know what they were thinking. maybe they knew and accepted the risk that this could happen if the trade failed, and they didn't mind the possibility of a fire sale on one of the best arms in the nfl.

iro with the brown bag (Hunt3r), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 17:57 (seventeen years ago)

I know I've read that Cutler asked to be traded before this week... a-ha, was in that peter king article, i'm not crazy abt his writing & don't know if he gets reliable information but.. said that Cutler asked back in Jan after the offensive coordinator left. I don't have the impression McDaniels/Bowlen decided out of nowhere to start shopping him to other teams. there's been some kind of dispute over his contract AFAIK

итало электро брейк (daria-g), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 18:03 (seventeen years ago)

The Broncos should trade Cutler for a defensive player, sign Kurt Warner, and try to draft Sanchez.

Denver TV analyst Scott Hastings joined Dan Patrick to discuss the Nuggets playoff run, the Broncos and other Denver news.

-Jay Cutler lost Hastings' respect when he claimed his arm is stronger than John Elway's. This was just a stupid thing to say because Elway is a legend in Denver so saying something like that just angers the fanbase. He calls Cutler an "arrogant little punk" and should wake up to the reality that he's the QB of an NFL football team and should act like a leader. He also referred to Cutler as a "little bitch."

-When Josh McDaniel was introduced as head coach, Cutler didn't even appear at the press conference. Hastings thinks that as the team leader, Cutler should've done everything in his power to appear there to support the new coach. He is, after all, the team leader.

-Dan asks Hastings if he'd rather have Brandon Marshall or Cutler. Hastings says he'd rather have Marshall, calling him a great guy.
