well, given that pioli from the pats has effectively taken over @ kansas city, it's sort of new england midwest, not surprised he wanted to bring in vrabel - not sure if any other NE staff went with pioli, probably a few. it's not like they're randomly dumping vrabel on whatever franchise made an offer.

"Pro Bowl nose tackle Shaun Rogers has formally asked to be traded or released by the Browns and isn't likely to change his mind, a source close to Rogers said. Browns coach Eric Mangini has been trying to call the disgruntled tackle, but it's not yet known if the two have talked. Chances are, it wouldn't do much good anyway. A Browns source said neither Rogers nor his representative has made any demands. Mangini did not immediately respond to a request to be interviewed. Rogers is miffed not just about being snubbed by Mangini on two occasions, but also by a directive he received from an unknown club official regarding the off-season weight pro- gram. Despite playing all last season ..."
"Chiefs Pro Bowl guard Brian Waters asked the organization Thursday to release or trade him this offseason, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Waters asked for his release two days after a brief meeting with new head coach Todd Haley and after being told by first-time general manager Scott Pioli that he had no interest in meeting with Waters, the source said. Waters, according to the source, was offended and shocked by what he perceived to be the arrogance of Haley and Pioli. Waters' meeting with Haley and follow-up phone conversations confirmed in the nine-year vet's mind that the negative reports about Haley he heard from Arizona Cardinals players while at the Pro Bowl ..."

Do you guys think Roy Williams (S) will ever be a good player again?
The concept of "Roy Williams" is pretty much exactly what the Chargers need -- a hard-nosed, aggressive safety -- but the actual Roy Williams has been pretty shitty.
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Saturday, 28 February 2009 01:36 (seventeen years ago)
Even when Parcells was in Dallas they would often pull Roy Williams sometimes in passing situations. The guy could hit and he was a star player (for a safety) in college who ended up on the Cowboys, but I'm not sure he really was ever that great.
Haynesworth is definitely good, but that is a whole lot of cash tied up in a DT. The dude has missed some games, he hasn't played a full season since he was a rookie, of course some of those missed games were for stompin' on a dudes head.

Also, why are the Eagles getting rid of everyone?
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Saturday, 28 February 2009 19:05 (seventeen years ago)
i think this is a weak enough draft that it would be justified trading the third overall pick for cassell
also of course <3 the irony of him getting traded to the "team" that incidentally gave the opportunity to be a 'star'

yeah. i had to break the news to one of my coworkers yesterday afternoon, she is a hardcore iggles fan.. ;_; indeed
meanwhile, approx 75% of patriot nation is freaking the fuck out that NE didn't get enough for cassel + vrabel (they got KC's 2nd rounder which is afaik the #2 pick in that round)
― итало электро брейк (daria-g), Saturday, 28 February 2009 19:42 (seventeen years ago)
yeah if im in their shoes i'd be a bit concerned too, considering cassell's got a v romo-like (the good part) career trajectory it looks like. but belichick always does great in the draft, so we'll see.
― hoosteenanny (k3vin k.), Saturday, 28 February 2009 19:49 (seventeen years ago)
they couldn't hold on to both guys and no way they were getting rid of brady. AFAIK - at the end of the season cassel's contract was up, thus the franchise tag, otherwise he'd have been free to walk away & pats would've gotten nothing.. but once they used the tag they had to either trade him or tie up like $29 million at QB paying both cassel and brady.
― итало электро брейк (daria-g), Saturday, 28 February 2009 19:54 (seventeen years ago)

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast/0-6-0/Why-would-Pats-turn-down-12th-pick-for-Cassel-.html
pats turned down 12th overall pick from Denver to send Cassel there/Cutler to Tampa Bay
wtf. don't know if BB wanted to send cassel to a team that was not going to be a threat anytime soon.. or didn't want to do a deal with mcdaniels.. or maybe was concerned the trade would fall through given that 3 teams were involved, thereby leaving NE with cassel and his $14 mil salary..
― итало электро брейк (daria-g), Sunday, 1 March 2009 17:47 (seventeen years ago)
ya, every aspect of this is so insane that i basically refuse to believe any of it, starting with the idea that mcdaniels would earnestly want to swap cutler for cassel - cutler is SO much better than cassel at everything the position requires, that it's basically impossible for me to wrap my head around this. nevermind the idea of belichick turning down superior compensation for cassel. the whole thing just sounds like bs to me, i find it a lot easier to envision that some teams called denver about cutler, denver listened and declined, and that turned into 'CUTLER ON THE TRADING BLOCK'
