middle-class whiteys with dog (i am one, btw and seriously, fuck that guy) also like to have their bad guys to hate on; it adds spice to the meal and i think the nfl is savvy enough to roll with that.

I thoroughly expect him to donate a million dollars to the aspca, come back as a second stringer return/rb/wr/whatever, be roundly hated for the first year and then claw back into contention as backup qb for like, the raiders or something.

The dude went to prison and served his time. Why not give the guy a second chance, especially if he dedicates himself to ASPCA stuff...

I have a sweet pit and dude went to jail for abusing and murdering pits for pleasure (well, he really went in for gambling and transporting animals over state lines and some shit, but besides the point). If you had a retarded kid and he went to jail for beating up his retarded kid, I would understand if you had some issues giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Also "dedicates himself to ASPCA stuff" is all pretty speculative at the moment and am I still talking about Vick and pitbulls in '09? I should probably check myself here.

I have a sweet pit

Don't get me wrong, I love pits a lot and lived with one for about five years. I think dog fighting is abhorrent. But I also believe that dudes who go to prison should be able to get jobs when they're released from prison.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 17:57 (seventeen years ago)

Absolutely! Don't mean I have to like the guy though.

Throwing Puffy under the gay bus, whatever that means (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 18:03 (seventeen years ago)

I didn't like him BEFORE the dog thing, but I miss being able to use him on Madden.

Goodell takes a paycut... a very smart, political move.

man every player in the NFL is being released it seems like!

The Notorious B.Y.O.B. (M@tt He1ges0n), Thursday, 26 February 2009 00:35 (seventeen years ago)

Towards the end of the season I saw some isolated plays on one of the NFL Playbook kind of shows that had Derrick Brooks looking pretty bad in coverage. The dude is probably the 2nd future Hall of Famer to get released this week. Brooks was a definite badass in his prime, the guy could run like few linebackers of his size. I'd bet that him Sapp and eventually Lynch all end up in the Hall from that Tampa team.

Have a pretty strong feeling that LDT is done with the Chargers.

help me to understand

Hall returns to Skins with $54M deal
ESPN.com news services

The Redskins reached an agreement Friday morning to keep cornerback DeAngelo Hall, and made him one of the highest paid cornerbacks in football.

Hall accepted a six-year $54 million deal that included $22.5 million in guarantees, giving the 25-year-old cornerback his second big payday in as many years. Hall was guaranteed around $24 million in a seven-year, $70 million contract he signed a year ago with Oakland, but he struggled to adjust to the Raiders' man-to-man defense and was waived after eight games.

The Redskins picked him up less than a week later, and he provided a needed boost to a secondary beset by too many injuries and not enough big plays. Hall played in seven games and started the last four, eventually moving ahead of Carlos Rogers on the depth chart.

the powerful claw (J0rdan S.), Friday, 27 February 2009 07:02 (seventeen years ago)

"help me to understand"

The Redskins front office has been pretty much retarded when it comes to signing free agents since Snyder bought the club. Sad thing is that they seem to know how to draft and find other players, but they are always signing some players for insane amounts and some usually over the hill (although that might not be the case with Hall who is more of a headcase).

Shaun Rogers (the best d-player on the browns last year) wants out of Cleveland because Mangini has bascially ignored him since he was named head coach. RIP franchise.

Jets sign Bart Scott, Eagles sign Stacy Andrews (presumably to replace Runyon)

s1ocki kong country (cankles), Friday, 27 February 2009 17:28 (seventeen years ago)

yeah mangini's making a lot of friends in cleveland evidently..

not surprised at all re: haynesworth, but.. redskins oline needs help. and rookie WRs last season didn't do anything. i don't know what they are thinking. i know d hall wanted to stay in washington but surprised they paid him THAT much..

semi-confused about this vrabel trade. he's definitely declined but i'm unclear on who replaces him outside in the 3-4. pats LB depth was already terrible. i'll def. miss him as a player, esp. on offense.

guys the chiefs are the most horrible team to watch

the powerful claw (J0rdan S.), Friday, 27 February 2009 20:23 (seventeen years ago)

do they show them in columbia? we used to get them in stl, until jesus boy when to arizona.

bnw, Friday, 27 February 2009 20:25 (seventeen years ago)

yeah now columbia is considered a primarily kc market, so if the chiefs and rams are playing at the same time we get the chiefs. if they're playing at diff times we get both >:[

i will go to an early grave stating that the cleveland browns, in the last six games of the season, were the worst team in modern NFL history

mullah mangenius (brownie), Friday, 27 February 2009 20:36 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i mean ken dorsey, wow.

the powerful claw (J0rdan S.), Friday, 27 February 2009 20:37 (seventeen years ago)

well, given that pioli from the pats has effectively taken over @ kansas city, it's sort of new england midwest, not surprised he wanted to bring in vrabel - not sure if any other NE staff went with pioli, probably a few. it's not like they're randomly dumping vrabel on whatever franchise made an offer.

"Pro Bowl nose tackle Shaun Rogers has formally asked to be traded or released by the Browns and isn't likely to change his mind, a source close to Rogers said. Browns coach Eric Mangini has been trying to call the disgruntled tackle, but it's not yet known if the two have talked. Chances are, it wouldn't do much good anyway. A Browns source said neither Rogers nor his representative has made any demands. Mangini did not immediately respond to a request to be interviewed. Rogers is miffed not just about being snubbed by Mangini on two occasions, but also by a directive he received from an unknown club official regarding the off-season weight pro- gram. Despite playing all last season ..."

"Chiefs Pro Bowl guard Brian Waters asked the organization Thursday to release or trade him this offseason, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Waters asked for his release two days after a brief meeting with new head coach Todd Haley and after being told by first-time general manager Scott Pioli that he had no interest in meeting with Waters, the source said. Waters, according to the source, was offended and shocked by what he perceived to be the arrogance of Haley and Pioli. Waters' meeting with Haley and follow-up phone conversations confirmed in the nine-year vet's mind that the negative reports about Haley he heard from Arizona Cardinals players while at the Pro Bowl ..."

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 27 February 2009 23:37 (seventeen years ago)

Do you guys think Roy Williams (S) will ever be a good player again?

The concept of "Roy Williams" is pretty much exactly what the Chargers need -- a hard-nosed, aggressive safety -- but the actual Roy Williams has been pretty shitty.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Saturday, 28 February 2009 01:36 (seventeen years ago)

Even when Parcells was in Dallas they would often pull Roy Williams sometimes in passing situations. The guy could hit and he was a star player (for a safety) in college who ended up on the Cowboys, but I'm not sure he really was ever that great.

Haynesworth is definitely good, but that is a whole lot of cash tied up in a DT. The dude has missed some games, he hasn't played a full season since he was a rookie, of course some of those missed games were for stompin' on a dudes head.

earlnash, Saturday, 28 February 2009 01:51 (seventeen years ago)

Cripes. Shaun Rogers wants out and Winslow's gone.

brownie please say something to get me at all excited about the browns!!
