I mean, who cares this deeply about were Hernandez is going that WCVB decided they needed to devote a live feed and a helicopter to it??

DJP, Thursday, 20 June 2013 17:07 (ten years ago) link

stories of pending arrest seem to be premature at best rn

J0rdan S., Thursday, 20 June 2013 18:11 (ten years ago) link

this is completely terrible but I keep thinking Tebow is cursing the bad aim of his smite prayers, completely not picking up on the heavy-handed hints God is giving him

DJP, Thursday, 20 June 2013 18:13 (ten years ago) link

At best he's accessory/conspiracy.

polyphonic, Thursday, 20 June 2013 18:17 (ten years ago) link

it's going to be pretty tough nailing Tebow as an accessory no matter how hard he prayed

Investigators have also searched three Enterprise rental cars that were registered to the NFL star, including one that had its silver mirror knocked off. That vehicle, sources said, was recovered at an Enterprise location in Boston Wednesday, a day after police issued a BOLO [Be On The Lookout] for it. The sources said it had been dropped off abruptly sometime Tuesday with the broken mirror.

As Aaron Hernandez finds himself a suspect in the homicide of a Boston man and the subject of ridiculous media coverage, Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel has released details of another shooting investigation that occurred while the tight end attended the University of Florida in 2007.

From Bianchi:

When Hernandez was at UF, he was once questioned, along with three other Gator football players, about a shooting in Gainesvile. None of the players were arrested, but detectives questioned Hernandez in the shootings of Corey Smith and Justin Glass about 2:30 a.m. after Florida lost to Auburn in 2007. According to a Sentinel report at the time, police said Smith, 28, and Glass, 19, were driving around in traffic about 2:30 a.m. Sunday when a man began shooting into their car. Smith was critically wounded in the head while Glass was shot in the arm.

Hernandez declined to discuss the case with reporters back then and was never charged with any crime.

The Urban Meyer era in Gainesville was marred by a long list of varying criminal charges and investigations, as at least 25 of his players were arrested between 2005 and 2010. In 2009, the Sentinel called local defense attorney Huntley Johnson the team's "defensive MVP" for his work in handling a majority of the student-athletes' cases. After taking the Ohio State job in November 2011, Meyer said that the arrests during his time at Florida were “exaggerated."

Bianchi also relayed details of an incident from very early in Hernadez’s Gators career:

However, when Hernandez first enrolled at UF, he was arrested as a 17-year-old juvenile after an altercation at local campus hangout known as The Swamp. Hernandez received deferred prosecution.

arrest warrant is in, obstruction of ustice according to the url. who is ustice, and why was he obstructed. if tv is any guide to real life, this is an easy minor charge they can hold him on while they fuck with him and get their shit together for a big boy charge

  • the security system at Hernandez's home, which included video – had been intentionally destroyed
  • His cell phone was handed over to police "in pieces," and appeared to have been smashed.
  • Police also want to know why a team of house cleaners were hired on Monday to scrub Hernandez's mansion
  • Hernandez and the victim, Odin Lloyd, 27, a semi-pro football player, had been together at several nightclubs during the course of the weekend, including the night before Lloyd's body was found
  • Lloyd's body was found shot in the back of the head in a scrubby clearing of an industrial park roughly a mile from the Patriots star's $1.7 million mansion

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 21 June 2013 13:05 (ten years ago) link

idk the MA criminal code but destroying dna or other evidence in a murder case has got to be a significant sentence even if he isnt or isnt proven to be the perpetrator

i think they were threatening adrianna la cerva with about 7 years for that, which is a solid precedent although that was in new jersey and not in reality

obstruction of justice charges don't carry huge penalties... if he wasn't involved in the murder and flipped on whoever was, then he'd get off w/ probation or something

that said it still seems very possible that he was involved in the murder

J0rdan S., Friday, 21 June 2013 13:22 (ten years ago) link

i think ray lewis pled to obstruction charges, he didn't do any jail time iirc

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/06/21/within-days-of-draft-hernandez-threatened-welker/

In an anecdote near the bottom of a longer report, it was mentioned that Hernandez was at the team facility trying to watch film, when he grew frustrated at not being able to operate the equipment. Wide receiver Wes Welker walked by, Hernandez asked for help, and Welker replied: “Rookie, you figure it out.”

According to the report, Hernandez “responded with expletives.”

The Globe being a family publication, didn’t expound, but one of their reporters did on Twitter.

According to Shalise Manza Young, Hernandez’s reply was “f— you Wes, I’ll f— you up!“
