It sounds funny considering how bad he was in Chicago, but Cedric Benson did play pretty good for the Bengals down the stretch. I think Cincy need a change of pace scatback to pair with him, but if they can find another James Brooks who could also big in the passing game, it might not be a bad pairing.
Tom Rathman was a pretty good player. Dude was great catching passes out of the backfield.

Tampa Bay fired John Gruden, which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
― Mr. Snrub, Saturday, 17 January 2009 04:09 (seventeen years ago)
Taking away the Superbowl year, Gruden's record in Tampa was 45-50 with two playoff losses in the following six years. Eh, I can see why they thought it was time after this year's collapse. Kiffin is also leaving and the defense needs complete overhaul. It is just time for a do over.

Unless the money was totally insulting, why would Linehan turn down SF to go to Detroit? Doesnt seem to make much sense.
"sweet looks like the vikes might get one more year with leslie frazier as defensive coordinator"
It seems like there are a ton of '85 Bears who coach in the NFL: Fisher, Rivera, Singletary, Frazier, there must be more. I remember Frazier going down with a torn ACL in that Bowl, nice to see him doing well.

that is cool, and it fits with what singletary probably wants to run over there. reeves isn't really as old as you'd think, it's just the heart problems have kept him away from coaching for a while now.
idk how linehan keeps gettin jobs tho
― ゙(゚、 。 7 (cankles), Friday, 23 January 2009 21:47 (seventeen years ago)
Reeves is a little old school though. Elway hated him, and their offense didn't get creative until Shanahan came in. Reeves' offenses with Atlanta and NYG were snoozefests.
Breaking news: Herm Edwards axed.

MORT AND SCHEFTER DUEL OVER REPORTS OF SHANAHAN TO CHIEFSPosted by Mike Florio on January 23, 2009, 5:48 p.m.
This is getting pretty good. Two of the top NFL information men in the business are engaged in a duel regarding the question of whether the Kansas City Chiefs are talking to former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan regarding the possibility of replacing former Chiefs coach Herm Edwards.
Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that the Chiefs and Shanahan are closing in on a deal.
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reported on Thursday, and has reiterated today, that the Chiefs have made no contact with Shanahan.
“[U]nless people I have known for years are blatantly lying to me, Shanahan is not going to be the next head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs,” Schefter writes. “It is not happening. People can keep talking as if it is. But it is not. He will not be the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2009.”

Hiring Shanahan would be kind of a KC thing to do, they seem to like to jump on a once hot coach once they get let go or are available.
Marty Schottenheimer (Cleveland)Dick Vermeil (Rams)Herm Edwards (Jets)
Gunther Cunningham is the only one they hired off their staff and I think he quit after 2 years instead of being fired. He eventually came back a year or two later as a defensive coordinator again.

The bitch of it is if the Bills don’t score 21 in NE, everyone will be down AVP’s throat next. - Guess they will have to score 40 then :-) - And by 21, you mean 21 offensive points- You really think Lindell can go 7/7 ??

The days prior to the 2008 regular-season opener were dominated by discussion regarding whether Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman would be able to play due to a torn PCL.
This year, the question is whether Merriman will be able to play after allegedly assaulting a D-level television celebrity named Tila Tequila.
Merriman allegedly "choked and physically restrained" Tequila as she tried to leave his San Diego residence.
He was taken into custody at 3:45 p.m. local time and charged with battery and false imprisonment. Tequila was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

At some point in the not-too-distant future, look for Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman to articulate publicly his defense against the claim that he battered and falsely imprisoned Tila Tequila Nguyen early Sunday morning.
As we understand it, Merriman will indeed contend that she was intoxicated, and that he was trying to prevent her from driving in that condition, as she attempted to leave her home.

Per the report, Merriman went to his bedroom with two women. Nguyen then entered the room, and Merriman asked her to join them. She reacted angrily, threatening to have sex with a member of Merriman's entourage.Instead, she took off all her clothes and tried to leave the house. Merriman then prevented her from leaving.Citing unnamed sources, Vara also reports that Nguyen "faked" a neck injury, and that paramedics who arrived at the scene determined that she was fine.
Yeah, I remember college too.
