Worse thing is that Belichick also fxxxed a bunch of NE fans also on the spread, as that TD made it a 4 point win (on a 3 1/2 spread) instead of a 1 point win, if they kicked the fg.

HA HA, you lose twice Boston!

earlnash, Monday, 6 February 2012 03:01 (twelve years ago) link

thought patritos were 3 1/2-pt faves, so it didn't matter

Assmaster (Hungry4Ass), Monday, 6 February 2012 03:15 (twelve years ago) link

Um it was devoid of cinematic highlight real plays but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Also the last five years have seen some pretty incredible Abs iirc

uh manningham catch?

call all destroyer, Monday, 6 February 2012 03:19 (twelve years ago) link

yeah that one was great, I actually shouted loud enough to alert nearby police when that happened.

frogbs, stills, and nash (Neanderthal), Monday, 6 February 2012 03:21 (twelve years ago) link

just mostly sayin that it wasn't like the 2007 match with the back and forth lead changes in the 4th, but that the game itself felt like a chess match and I liked it. granted I think both clubs woulda gotten their asses beat by their 2007 versions (though I think Eli's better at this point though obv).

lol was waiting for someone to swoop in

frogbs, stills, and nash (Neanderthal), Monday, 6 February 2012 03:25 (twelve years ago) link

so the power/cable was wonky for like a third of my friends. One of mine works in a hotel and they lost power and the patrons were going nuts, so she queued up the game on her phone so they could watch the last 5 mins.

My friend called me in the last 20 seconds to tell me his cable had just gone out and asked me to do play by play as I watched.

frogbs, stills, and nash (Neanderthal), Monday, 6 February 2012 03:31 (twelve years ago) link

nfl network appeared to just be showing belichick being interviewed on like a camera phone

johnny crunch, Monday, 6 February 2012 03:35 (twelve years ago) link

It is always good to see that Brady is indeed human. dude hasn't played at his usual godlike levels in the postseason pretty much since the click read :00 against the Eagles. Obv a shoo-in hall of famer of course and still top 5 in the league but it's almost like some magical fairy dust wore off over time.

frogbs, stills, and nash (Neanderthal), Monday, 6 February 2012 03:36 (twelve years ago) link

i kind of wonder how many other coaches would have 'let' bradshaw score. it was fairly obviously the right choice, but unconventional enough that i think a number of coaches might have held tight and pinned their hopes on forcing a fumble/blocking a fg attempt.

mookieproof, Monday, 6 February 2012 03:37 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, def the right call, and I think so many other coaches would have been afraid of the casual fan's perception that they either wouldn't have dialed it up or they'd have dressed it up more. I like how Belichick parted the red sea to where it was obvious and Bradshaw's "OMG WHAT DO I DID???!!!" moment is all-time classic.

frogbs, stills, and nash (Neanderthal), Monday, 6 February 2012 03:38 (twelve years ago) link

i dont remember the exact math but they were saying it'd be like :20 left? w/ no timeouts only needing a fg....i think the right play is prob not to score the td but it is at least debatable

johnny crunch, Monday, 6 February 2012 03:40 (twelve years ago) link

also i guess the 3% chance he misses an extra pt distance kick

johnny crunch, Monday, 6 February 2012 03:41 (twelve years ago) link

I was really holding out for a hope that Bradshaw woulda started running sideline to sideline Tecmo Bowl style to run out clock

frogbs, stills, and nash (Neanderthal), Monday, 6 February 2012 03:42 (twelve years ago) link

some boston globe writer (not one of the usual pats beat writers of course, they are v good) already has a rant up like 'this is all your fault brady'

seriously, THIS GUY (daria-g), Monday, 6 February 2012 03:44 (twelve years ago) link

Field goals are usually automatic that close, but you do have three places it can go wrong with the snap, the hold and the kick. For some reason, just like with free throws, when the game is on the line the place kick seems to often bring out the screw ups.

earlnash, Monday, 6 February 2012 03:45 (twelve years ago) link

I bet if it was switched around, Coughlin would have gone to block the kick.

earlnash, Monday, 6 February 2012 03:45 (twelve years ago) link

coughlin said he didnt tell bradshaw to go down

johnny crunch, Monday, 6 February 2012 03:47 (twelve years ago) link

eh I'd put the chances of Brady getting 80 yards in a minute far above the chances of an extra kick fucking up

iatee, Monday, 6 February 2012 03:47 (twelve years ago) link

nah he woulda wondered why he was suddenly coach of the Patriots xxpost

frogbs, stills, and nash (Neanderthal), Monday, 6 February 2012 03:48 (twelve years ago) link

extra point kick*

iatee, Monday, 6 February 2012 03:48 (twelve years ago) link

yeah. besides, if they kicked on a first or second down, and the snap went bad, they could just eat the ball and try again.

frogbs, stills, and nash (Neanderthal), Monday, 6 February 2012 03:49 (twelve years ago) link

I do dig that the law of averages have come back on Belichick and the Pats, as they got a whole lot of floss on their wins which were all really close games and could have gone wither way. It wasn't like the Pats were the Niners blowing out clubs 55 to 10.
