phil rivers played an afc championship game on a torn acl iirc

call all destroyer, Monday, 24 January 2011 18:20 (fifteen years ago)

Frogbs otm - these type of rush to judgment fans are the same people who likely rush into hiding during the 6-10 seasons.

I've been thinking about this http://c0848462.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/3d93bd2c4f3f1b33c02182fd0f20476f.png thing a lot.

It reminds me of ex-military communities and whatnot where there's a pretty loud and vocal opinion on the right and wrong kind of behaviour, and perceptions of weakness or whatever.

I'm no http://c0848462.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/3d93bd2c4f3f1b33c02182fd0f20476f.png stan but I would be pretty po'd at all the players weighing in on his 'toughness'. They made it into the playoffs, dude has been sacked a ridiculous number of times this season, he doesn't generally strike me as a player who would quit on his team. And honestly, if Urlacher has his back then maybe he's legit. Bc if baldy thought that http://c0848462.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/3d93bd2c4f3f1b33c02182fd0f20476f.png wasn't giving 110% he wouldn't be afraid to say it imo

VegemiteGrrrl, Monday, 24 January 2011 18:23 (fifteen years ago)

Xpost Yea and Rivers also had a lousy game. And apparently his staff didn't know about the extent of his injury until afterwards.

Think that situation was also special cuz it was against the undefeated Patriots and teams were all lining up trying to be the team that beat em, leading to some unusual decision making

show me your ticks (San Te), Monday, 24 January 2011 18:25 (fifteen years ago)

we don't really know how comparable the two injuries were--just sayin that it's out there.

call all destroyer, Monday, 24 January 2011 18:28 (fifteen years ago)

When I played in high school, nobody would quit on the team, even when players got injured they would never want to sit unless the coach forced them. People would try to play through any type of injury unless they literally couldn't walk anymore. I mean we went 3-8 and 2-9 my last two years and still nobody ever quit. One guy tore his ACL and had to be in a wheelchair for a month...got crazy attention from the chicks. I guess that helps.

frogbs, Monday, 24 January 2011 18:29 (fifteen years ago)

and pretty sure a conf championship game is always "special"

call all destroyer, Monday, 24 January 2011 18:29 (fifteen years ago)

eh he prob just got benched after the half he had, really

ice cr?m, Monday, 24 January 2011 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

Xpost Yea but so is having a career. Rivers risked his to beat the Patriots and failed, but he recovered and picked up where he left off.

If cicrcumstances had been different and he got hit the right way and missed training camp/part of the season the next year, or developed permanent damage that led a permanent reduction in quality, I don't doubt for a moment that dude wouldn't be lionized like he is now.

Also pretty sure the game film on how effective Rivers wasn't during that game made the decision easier for Bears coaches. He could barely function against the Pats.

show me your ticks (San Te), Monday, 24 January 2011 18:36 (fifteen years ago)

That too. http://c0848462.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/3d93bd2c4f3f1b33c02182fd0f20476f.png played pretty terribly anyway. But it's not as though they had a valid backup (although Hanie turned out solid)

Culter might be a prick but saying that he isn't tough is bullshit.

polyphonic, Monday, 24 January 2011 18:43 (fifteen years ago)

agreed--i'm just saying that he will be questioned for this--i have no doubt he's tough enough (and a prick enough) to handle that.

call all destroyer, Monday, 24 January 2011 18:44 (fifteen years ago)

yeah c-u-t-l-e-r got hammered this year and yesterday again he couldn't get protection from the offensive line. sports fans are the worst when it comes to assigning blame, chicago fans right up there with the worst of the worst (just ask bartman.)

am0n, Monday, 24 January 2011 18:49 (fifteen years ago)

Definitely right that he will be.

My disgust at the fan reaction ties into how selfish and ignorant it is to demand someone to sacrifice his body for your own desires. These players already retire with the limbs of grandpas, and then hopefully they're lucky if they don't suffer dementia in old age.

That and the fact that many of the reacting fans probably take sick days for sniffles makes me want to tell them all to fuck off and live vicariously through cartoons.

show me your ticks (San Te), Monday, 24 January 2011 18:50 (fifteen years ago)

from what i understand a lot of dudes who play through injuries are able to get a cortisone shot in the locker room which will allow them to forget the pain, but the fact that http://c0848462.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/3d93bd2c4f3f1b33c02182fd0f20476f.png is diabetic means that he's unable to get one.

omar little, Monday, 24 January 2011 18:56 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, a huge glucocorticoid shot would wreck his insulin levels

marios balls in 3d for 3ds (Princess TamTam), Monday, 24 January 2011 18:59 (fifteen years ago)

i mean it shouldnt be IMPOSSIBLE for him to take one, but it'd cause his insulin/glucose management to go to shit

marios balls in 3d for 3ds (Princess TamTam), Monday, 24 January 2011 19:04 (fifteen years ago)

if jay http://c0848462.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/3d93bd2c4f3f1b33c02182fd0f20476f.png isn't willing to die on the sidelines in order to win a silver trophy, then he can't be my quarterback, i'll tell you that right now

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 January 2011 19:05 (fifteen years ago)

omar/tamtam are right abt the cortisone thing and it's an excellent point.

call all destroyer, Monday, 24 January 2011 19:08 (fifteen years ago)

san te you're being a lil ridic; he's a pro football player, this comes with the territory. he was riding a bike on the sidelines but didn't come back into the game--ppl will question that.

call all destroyer, Monday, 24 January 2011 19:09 (fifteen years ago)

Just cuz it "has and always shall be" doesn't mean I have to agree with it and/or like it,nor make it any more fair. Nor make it any less stupid on the part of the fans.

Dude shouldn't be obligated to oversell his injury to avoid public vitriol. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if he cared less than me about what people are saying cuz that's how he is.

show me your ticks (San Te), Monday, 24 January 2011 19:11 (fifteen years ago)

i know the nfl is all about men being men, but is cut1er minus a knee going to be more helpful to the team than a healthy backup? he wasn't that effective before the injury anyway.

but yeah he should have gotten crutches or something for the pr, but he doesn't seem to care about that.

mookieproof, Monday, 24 January 2011 19:12 (fifteen years ago)

"Imagining the closet of the fans who bought jerseys must be filled with Cade McNown, Jim Miller, Rex Grossman, and Mike Tomczak jerseys"

Rule #1: dont ever buy a Bears qb jersey, ever. Even McMahon, he actually sucked.

The Curse of Dennis Stratton (Bill Magill), Monday, 24 January 2011 19:20 (fifteen years ago)

I think part of the problem is Cut.ler's demeanour is alway 100% 'hi I am a sullen teenager'. Makes it hard for any onlooker, fan or otherwise, to rally around him, let alone root for him.

the cortisone issue is an actual issue w/r/t this. my dad's mentioned cortisone in the past as a must to avoid for him, since he's diabetic. apparently it can seriously fuck up your sugar levels for months afterward or permanently worsen your diabetes, if not do something even more grim.

that story about http://c0848462.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/3d93bd2c4f3f1b33c02182fd0f20476f.png having tears in his eyes when he found out other players were badmouthing him just killed me....I mean I'm a Packer fan, so yeah I dislike the guy by default, but he seems to have a real bad reputation that's kind of unwarranted. he's like the bob fripp of quarterbacks.

frogbs, Monday, 24 January 2011 21:23 (fifteen years ago)

can we dump the hatcat thing now that he's done for the season? not sure who would qualify for it now... maybe any mention of "pro bowl"?

get off my lawn (rockapads), Monday, 24 January 2011 21:25 (fifteen years ago)

put it on roffles imo

call all destroyer, Monday, 24 January 2011 21:26 (fifteen years ago)

frogbs, Monday, 24 January 2011 21:27 (fifteen years ago)

I think we should probably give hat cat a rest too. He's going to need to rest up for next season.
