"Robbie Gould, very accurate kicker."
....
"Missed it from 49!"

Don't these guys know that citing stats and shit AUTOMATICALLY means something contrary is going to happen?
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 28 September 2010 00:52 (fifteen years ago)
That said, Bears first drive was good.
Gould is pretty much perfect under 40, but the dude doesn't have a rocket launcher leg.

There's gonna be a line of kickers behind the woodshed in Week 4
― VegemiteGrrrl, Tuesday, 28 September 2010 00:53 (fifteen years ago)
49 is a pretty long kick, I'd say Gould is probably at best 50/50 on a shot that long.
― earlnash, Tuesday, 28 September 2010 00:55 (fifteen years ago)
classic gruden: rodgers is one of the best redzone QBs i've ever seen
― shartopus (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 28 September 2010 00:57 (fifteen years ago)
someone should keep track of these things
Chad Clifton has been around for a good long while. Remember when Warren Sapp was on the Bucs (maybe their Superbowl season or year before) and put Clifton in the hospital blindsiding him on a Favre interception. Those Bucs teams would bust your ass if you were left open for a shot, especially Lynch.

Laser guided missile
Mason Crosby (1975) - one time one shot LP team up of Dave Mason (Traffic) and David Crosbie (Byrds, CSNY) which is a slow largely forgettable collection of druggy harmony and boogie, but rarely at the same time.

Watching this Bears and Packers game, with pretty much ZERO running game and just a throwing spectacular albeit not in a complete spread made me start thinking about the "run and shoot offense". Don't know if you remember it much, but pretty much current NFL is a whole lot like this concept that was big in the 80s with a couple of clubs, mostly the Warren Moon Oilers. There was some passing success but the mindset of the time in an age of the 'west coast offense' and the 52 defense that it couldn't control the ball and be a real winning club.
That spread offense that is big in college reminds me quite a bit like how it was run, biggest difference is that the QB is much more of a threat to run in the formation than back in the run and shoot days.
Saw this quote looking it up at Wikipedia and it is pretty true.
""Now I look around, and the Patriots and the Colts and people like that are running what we ran and saying, 'That's how you play the game.' Knowing I was a part of that with Jerry and Mouse (Davis) gives me a lot of satisfaction. Now everybody in the National Football League does what we do now. It just so happens that New England does it every play." - June Jones (2008)[44]
― earlnash, Tuesday, 28 September 2010 02:22 (fifteen years ago)
i was gonna say, june jones
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 28 September 2010 02:26 (fifteen years ago)
you need an elite qb to run that offense which was the problem when like the atlanta falcons or whoever would try to implement it
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 28 September 2010 02:28 (fifteen years ago)
