dolphins playcalling got pretty flaky for some of the second half
― call all destroyer, Monday, 27 September 2010 03:48 (fifteen years ago)
awwwww
what kind of play was that
― shartopus (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 September 2010 03:48 (fifteen years ago)

henne is close to primetime, but not quite there
― call all destroyer, Monday, 27 September 2010 03:49 (fifteen years ago)
yeah he kind of folded at the end there
― horseshoe, Monday, 27 September 2010 03:50 (fifteen years ago)
I hope the Jets' plane crashes on the way home. Everyone survives of course, but they are missing for weeks and have to eat Rex Ryan to stay alive.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 27 September 2010 03:50 (fifteen years ago)
i actually didn't think the dolphins were gonna win -- it's so hard to beat a team three times in a row esp when they're as evenly matched as these two teams
― shartopus (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 September 2010 03:50 (fifteen years ago)
without that awful long td they gave up it's a v. different game, but that's why they play 'em amirite
― call all destroyer, Monday, 27 September 2010 03:51 (fifteen years ago)
yeah -- also they fucked up that drive when they got it first and goal at the 5
― shartopus (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 September 2010 03:52 (fifteen years ago)
and kicked the extra point
holy shit i just saw the eagles highlights

― shartopus (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 September 2010 09:06 (fifteen years ago)

the long TD to desean is easily the best throw i've seen this year
― shartopus (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 September 2010 09:20 (fifteen years ago)
wow, that highlight reel is something else. his throwing action is so fast. it's gonna be so sad when he fucks up again.

49ers have fired Jimmy Raye: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/09/27/jimmy-raye-gets-run-away-from-niners/
Earlier this morning, Rosenthal posted that 49ers coach Mike Singletary gave offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye the dreaded vote of confidence. Singletary specifically said that Raye will remain in the job for the rest of the season.
Apparently, the 49ers' season is over. (As a practical matter, it possibly is.)
Jason LaCanfora of NFL Network reports that Raye has been fired.
Unless Singletary decided to pull an Andy Reid about-face in a matter of hours, it's possible that the order came from higher up in the organization, possibly with a "fire Raye or you're out" ultimatum.
Then again, we continue to believe that no one in the 49ers organization would have the nerve to tell Singletary that he's out of a job.
Still, the move brings to mind whispers around the league the Singletary wasn't ready to become a head coach after being elevated into the position during the 2008 season.
LaCanfora also reports that Mike Johnson has been promoted into Raye's job. Two weeks ago, Singletary and others in the organization suspected that Johnson was the "rat" who spoke to the media about Raye's actual or perceived flaws in calling plays quickly.

^ The year's most wonderful soap opera.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 27 September 2010 15:19 (fifteen years ago)
i did not realize that jimmy raye was a 64 year-old coach who has coordinated only three seasons where the offense was ranked in the top 16, last being the chiefs in 2000. i mean, why would you hire this guy in the first place?
― call all destroyer, Monday, 27 September 2010 15:31 (fifteen years ago)
That's an excellent question, and goes to the root of why the Niners have been so bad for so long.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 27 September 2010 15:46 (fifteen years ago)
cf: Tom Walsh, Oakland Raiders 2006. (Though probably an extreme example in contrast). Who knows why the hell these people get hired.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Monday, 27 September 2010 15:51 (fifteen years ago)
Jimmy Raye had been a trusted assistant behind Norv, who had been the one coordinator Alex Smith had some success with before Norv took the San Diego job, so the theory was that maybe he could duplicate that success. However, Singletary did not allow Raye to run a Norv-esque system. Raye and/or Johnson implemented some spread offense at the end of last season and the team looked pretty good. Then they drafted two huge dudes and tried to go back to Mike's '80s offense and it didn't work.
I mean, obviously Raye had his own problems this year, but I don't think the problem was that Raye was too old fashioned or didn't know what he was doing.

Oof! Trent Edwards is apparently unemployed now.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 27 September 2010 16:40 (fifteen years ago)
Whut?
― VegemiteGrrrl, Monday, 27 September 2010 16:41 (fifteen years ago)
http://content.usatoday.com/communities/thehuddle/post/2010/09/buffalo-bills-cut-qb-trent-edwards/1
They've dumped Edwards in favor of Fitzpatrick (and, eventually, Brian Brohm I guess).
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 27 September 2010 16:44 (fifteen years ago)
So I guess Fitzpatrick is REALLY their guy now. Wow.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Monday, 27 September 2010 16:45 (fifteen years ago)
I will be shocked if they don't draft a quarterback next offseason.
― funky house skeptic (polyphonic), Monday, 27 September 2010 16:54 (fifteen years ago)
Oh, they most definitely will. In fact, Andrew Luck should probably start looking for a house in Buffalo.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 27 September 2010 16:56 (fifteen years ago)
"Hey you, waterboy! You're our #3 quarterback now. Here's a visor, here's a clipboard. Go sit next to Brohm."
― VegemiteGrrrl, Monday, 27 September 2010 16:57 (fifteen years ago)
How does Daunte Culpepper not have a job in the NFL, btw. Some seriously gross QB play out there.
― funky house skeptic (polyphonic), Monday, 27 September 2010 17:06 (fifteen years ago)
Weeeelll...friends of mine watched him in a UFL game - Sacramento Mountain Lions v Florida Tuskers (Brooks Bollinger as QB, lol!) and they said Culpepper looked pretty bad. He made Brooks Bollinger look like Michael Vick. And honestly, he didn't get many reps with the Raiders as backup but he was looking slow and creaky when he came in. He's not anywhere near as mobile as he used to be.His arm's pretty nice, but I dunno that anyone would take a risk on him now. He's way too injury prone.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Monday, 27 September 2010 17:13 (fifteen years ago)
That's kind of sad.
There's always Jeff Garcia, though. I would love if Garcia were to eventually be signed to every NFL team, even if it's an honorary signing, before he finally retires.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 27 September 2010 17:17 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, I haven't seen Garcia lately but he seem like the kind of guy that can consistently step up.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Monday, 27 September 2010 17:21 (fifteen years ago)
seems.
ugh my typing sucks lately
Think he's QB'ing the Omaha Nighthawks, if memory serves
Garcia is the anti-Favre. He'll play until he dies, but there won't be any drama and he'll know his limitations as he gets older.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 27 September 2010 17:23 (fifteen years ago)
otm
Pretty sure he wears Levis too imo
― VegemiteGrrrl, Monday, 27 September 2010 17:28 (fifteen years ago)
ITT we compare Jeff Garcia's season with the Omaha Nighthawks to Brett Favre's season with the Minnesota Vikings
― Muscus ex Craneo Humano (forksclovetofu), Monday, 27 September 2010 17:46 (fifteen years ago)
Singletary is the worst
Free Jimmy Raye
The bills are such a freaking mess. There needs to be one of those "starting QBs since Jim Kelly" graphics
Btw i bet andrew luck looks at the NFL standings, sees the bills as the worst team in the whole league, looks out his window in Palo Alto and goes "ehhhhh I think ill kick it here for one more year"
Ryan Mallet otoh....
― shartopus (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 September 2010 17:46 (fifteen years ago)
fuck trent edwards
― horseshoe, Monday, 27 September 2010 19:00 (fifteen years ago)
one of the most damning things i can think of to say about trent edwards is that ryan fitzpatrick is measurably more effective than he was.
― horseshoe, Monday, 27 September 2010 19:01 (fifteen years ago)
There needs to be one of those "starting QBs since Jim Kelly" graphics
some bad karma for the way we treated Flutie accounts for some of this, i believe
― horseshoe, Monday, 27 September 2010 19:02 (fifteen years ago)
ry-fitz looked pretty competent on sunday and made some very good throws, but it remains to be seen how well he will perform against an NFL secondary.
