Seems about the same as usual. Hard to say until the playoffs, really. That's when the grass gets cut and the snakes show.

The number of warnings issued has been what, about 3 so far?

Aimless, Thursday, 27 February 2014 18:20 (ten years ago) link

5 people have reached the $5k so far: http://www.spotrac.com/fines-tracker/nba/ (lol at the graph, Knicks really running away w/ Most Fined this year)

Not sure if there's measurably less flopping but it sure seems like there is, idk. JVG seems to be bitching about it less, so something must be going right.

feel like two years ago was the worst flopping season and its declined since due to league actions

lag∞n, Monday, 3 March 2014 04:52 (ten years ago) link

my impression is that the flopping has declined. either that, or the players have gotten better at selling them as offensive fouls. but it's true, we'll see how bad it gets during playoffs

Seems to me that any effect this initiative had has now worn off. Subtle floppers continue to practice their art unimpeded. You don't see quite so many outrageously humorous pratfalls as before, I guess, so maybe it has curbed the urge to flop among the clumsy and ungifted.

Aimless, Saturday, 2 May 2015 19:12 (eight years ago) link

i think it has. feel like there's been a few less egregiously comical flops (just a few)

Nhex, Saturday, 2 May 2015 23:23 (eight years ago) link

suspect the nba never had a problem w the subtle flops

fwiw, the plague of utterly ridiculous flops, the sort that were widely shared on twitter for people to jeer at, feels like it has subsided into a mere whisper of what it was in 2013-14. otoh, the subtle flop (aka "selling the foul", when the foul is as much theoretical as real) has continued to flourish and is still a feature at least once in any game that is hotly contested.
