i voted davis but now im think the timing might favor more a lebron > durant > davis succession
― lag∞n, Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:28 (eleven years ago) link
i dont have idea when this should happen. 2017, 18, 19 ?
― moullet, Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:34 (eleven years ago) link
hes 27 now so he could start slowly declining any time
― lag∞n, Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:38 (eleven years ago) link
bron will begin to decline in 4-5 years probably, the question is how long will it take for him to reach the rest of the pack, since he's so far ahead of everyone else now
― chief beef (k3vin k.), Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:39 (eleven years ago) link
barring injury i don't think he's going anywhere for a few years
dude there is no fn way bron starts to decline at 32
― lag∞n, Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:40 (eleven years ago) link
right now he is at the peak age for basketball players, and his game is highly dependent on athleticism
― lag∞n, Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:41 (eleven years ago) link
THERE IS NO FISCAL BRON CLIFF
― chief beef (k3vin k.), Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:42 (eleven years ago) link
i don't think there's really a precedent for lebron so i'm not sure that worries me so much. his gradual move to the 4 will help too
― chief beef (k3vin k.), Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:43 (eleven years ago) link
i think hell be good for a long time and the early stages of his decline will be slight but in three years he will prob not be quite as good as he is now, and most people wont notice
― lag∞n, Thursday, 15 November 2012 18:43 (eleven years ago) link
his gradual move to the 4 will help too
Yeah, at some point he'll just be a bad-ass PF instead an all-world SF.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

i think davis is the best bet. i think there's a not-tiny chance that durant's already hit his ceiling and could regress
― chief beef (k3vin k.), Monday, 19 November 2012 01:10 (eleven years ago) link
durant seems to be showing a lot of improvement on defense and playmaking and maybe rebounding tho thats more likely an effect of the fact that hes playing the 4 more now

who is the other?? i had a hard time thinking of someone obvious
― chief beef (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 20 November 2012 00:01 (eleven years ago) link
(other than javale mcgee)
lebron still has a good number of years on top imo. voted other because i'm hoping there's some wunderkind out there who's not even in the league yet and will dominate post LBJ.
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Tuesday, 20 November 2012 00:22 (eleven years ago) link
Agree I don't think the player who takes the reins from Lebron is in the league right now.

kyrie is a bold inclusion on this list and while i'm really high on him, when's the last time a point was the best player in the league? magic? mayyybe cp3 for a minute there?
― liljon /bia/ bia (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 20 November 2012 17:34 (eleven years ago) link
cp3 for a min otm
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 November 2012 17:37 (eleven years ago) link
i like kyrie a lot, he maybe doesnt quite have the athleticism to compete for best player in the world tho

There’s nothing special about this coverage, apart from James drawing the attention of every player on the floor.

ya prob, fwiw its arguable that kd was better than bron for a season
― lag∞n, Monday, 13 June 2016 16:58 (seven years ago) link
theres still a chance for brow to briefly be it hes only 23. obv he'd need to not die repeatedly
― ciderpress, Monday, 13 June 2016 18:11 (seven years ago) link
i still have faith in the brow, would be surprised if he just plateaus and then declines

surprised no one mentioned kawhi...or was this before his finals MVP?
seems like the lebron/curry/KD/brow/giannis/kawhi group is going to have a good grip on the elite conversation for the next couple of years at least, no one else really knocking on that door except maybe embiid or jokic?
― k3vin k., Saturday, 29 December 2018 18:12 (five years ago) link
knew I was forgetting someone in that elite group: harde obv

this poll was during kawhi's 2nd year which led to the first of the heat-spurs finals matchups. he was still basically a role player at that point. reminds me that start-turns can kinda come out of nowhere (like justise winslow rn for example).
― 21st savagery fox (m bison), Saturday, 29 December 2018 19:06 (five years ago) link
i can see deaaron fox or luka getting into this conversation in a couple of years.
