is the bean done for?? I couldn't be bothered to do a some dude 10 wishy-feely gradations so this is strictly a binary poll

Poll Results

OptionVotes
kobels is cooked 6
kobels is still a top 3 player 0

dayo, Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:11 (seven years ago) Permalink

top 3 is clearly pushing it, so is top 5

is he top 10?? idk

frogbracist (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:11 (seven years ago) Permalink

lebron
wade
dirk
cp3
melo
dwight
durant
rose

okay these eight are definitively better thank kobe imo, but after that it gets interesting

frogbracist (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:13 (seven years ago) Permalink

man just one season ago people were still calling him the top player in the league

xp wow, durant/rose over kobe? melo?

dayo, Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:15 (seven years ago) Permalink

are any of these two definitively better thank kobles:

amare, love, pau, z-bo, aldridge, deron, joe j, bosh, pierce, blake, monta, russ, nash, horford...

honestly looking at that list i'm willing to give kobe one more year before i call him COOKED aka out of the top 10

frogbracist (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:15 (seven years ago) Permalink

wow, i wrote "thank" instead of "than" TWICE

frogbracist (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:16 (seven years ago) Permalink

yeah for voting purposes you can treat the 'top 3' option as your 'not cooked' option, whatever your def may be. to me, thinking of kobe as being anywhere outside of the top 3 qualifies as 'cooked' since that's what we a all expect of him

dayo, Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:17 (seven years ago) Permalink

are you asking who of those guys you'd rather have on your team next year?

Clay, Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:17 (seven years ago) Permalink

i think you could stick z-bo & amare in there and call kobe out of the top 10, but i'm not willing to bang the gavel just yet

frogbracist (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:17 (seven years ago) Permalink

thank you based god

dayo, Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:17 (seven years ago) Permalink

yes, next year only

frogbracist (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:17 (seven years ago) Permalink

like not including contracts/potential/age xp

Clay, Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:17 (seven years ago) Permalink

i think you're about right. z-bo/aldridge is a push for me, lord knows how good blake griffin could be next year, amare yeah i'd have him above kobe at this point i'm pretty sure.

Clay, Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:20 (seven years ago) Permalink

well, age certainly, as it pertains to next season

but you're not "building a franchise" or w/e

frogbracist (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:20 (seven years ago) Permalink

this is kind of hard tho because of my visceral hate for the bean

Clay, Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:20 (seven years ago) Permalink

he had a couple of just absolutely vicious dunks in the no series

dayo, Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:21 (seven years ago) Permalink

like i said, i'm still very willing to give kobe the benefit of the doubt

frogbracist (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:21 (seven years ago) Permalink

just think it's lol that he will be paid 30 million in 2013-2014 when he will have no cartilage in his knee, guess it's a reward for past accomplishments

dayo, Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:22 (seven years ago) Permalink

kobe has at least 2-2.5 years of elite play left tho imo barring catastrophic injury

Clay, Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:23 (seven years ago) Permalink

yeah that contract is O________________________O

frogbracist (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:23 (seven years ago) Permalink

and i think he'll have the sense to retire before the inevitable ugly decline too

Clay, Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:24 (seven years ago) Permalink

YEAH RIGHT

frogbracist (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:25 (seven years ago) Permalink

dayo, Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:25 (seven years ago) Permalink

if the lakers win it all next year then maybe yeah, otherwise i think he hangs on as long as possible to get one more ring

plus, it's kobe!! when has he ever been unselfish

frogbracist (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:26 (seven years ago) Permalink

yeah this will never happen for kobels i don't think

http://cdn0.sbnation.com/legacy_images/bulletsforever/images/admin/Jordan_Wizards.jpg

Clay, Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:27 (seven years ago) Permalink

will be very lol if kobe is forced to retire with 5 rings

dayo, Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:27 (seven years ago) Permalink

based on the options i was given i voted cooked

call all destroyer, Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:28 (seven years ago) Permalink

i think he's as selfish as he is legacy driven tho, jordan. maybe if he's pushing the all-time points scored record he'd hang around a few years for that? but i don't see him hanging on to sully his image as a player. (his image as a person is obv p gross already)

Clay, Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:28 (seven years ago) Permalink

well, kobe is never gonna leave the lakers, but michael's situation was unique

frogbracist (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:29 (seven years ago) Permalink

i could see a 38 year old kobe playing 12 minutes a game for dwight's lakers

frogbracist (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:30 (seven years ago) Permalink

I think it's fascinating that he has no cartilage in his knee, could be entering the t-mac jump shooter phase of his career

dayo, Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:33 (seven years ago) Permalink

he's got about 10,500 points to get to kareem, so i guess that isn't going to happen.

Clay, Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:34 (seven years ago) Permalink

30 ppg @ 82 works out to 2460 points a season, yeah he'd need at least 5 more

dayo, Thursday, 23 June 2011 02:35 (seven years ago) Permalink

There should be a "Kobe was never top 3" option.

C'mon, he wasn't better than Shaq or Duncan or Garnett. And now he's not better than LeBron or Wade or Howard etc.

There's a Brian Philips post about Federer where he talks about Kobe being at the "still" phase of his athletic career, like he can still get to the rim but it needs constant restating rather than being a central and obvious fact - pretty otm I think.

if this is in order then dwight is too low, prob is #3 then dirk then cp3 then durant - these are basically all the players i could understand hearing the case for being better than kobe right now tho - melo is pushing it - but yeah kobles is in the 8-12 range right now

i've been thinking about this recently - over the course of a long season, on a per-minute basis, he's not a top 10 player anymore. but at his peak, he's still a top 7ish player - he's capable of taking over a game, or stringing together 30 point games, like few other players. but he balances those out with his 7-23 nights. it's never as evident as in the playoffs, where he'll will himself into high-volume outputs, whether it helps or hurts the team

Despite its fame, the Moonlight Sonata is often considered a piece for intermediate piano students. It is actually pretty simple in its technical demands. Playing it well mostly consists of playing it with nuance and style.

CHICAGO -- Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant will not play against the Chicago Bulls in a nationally-televised matchup here Thursday night.

The 36-year-old Bryant will sit out to rest for the second straight game, Lakers coach Byron Scott announced before the game.

When asked if there was any particular injury hampering Bryant he said, "Old age."
