feel like that celtics small lineup can work going forward specifically when giannis gets tired late.

yeah was thinking the same with the whole bucks tired really

lag∞n, Tuesday, 10 May 2022 20:53 (one year ago) link

the playoffs are cool

With the Celtics trailing by double digits in Game 4, Ime Udoka went to a lineup he hadn't played all season long. The move helped change the tide in a remarkable comeback https://t.co/spWCqVA23T

waggling eyebrows wildly

Ime Udoka: "This is what we played for, why we played the season out, to have home court advantage in a Game 7. If you believe in the basketball gods, those things matter."

i'm watching the second half now (afternoon games are a curse) and the biggest thing i see is that no matter what anyone wants to say about shooting disparity the bucks defense, particularly with tatum on the floor, was completely broken. the celtics could get an open three on every single possession. no ball pressure, no hard closes to shooters. tough way to make a living.

call all destroyer, Monday, 16 May 2022 01:36 (one year ago) link

Very satisfying blowout

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Monday, 16 May 2022 01:37 (one year ago) link

bucks weirdly came out from halftime and just kinda gave up

lag∞n, Monday, 16 May 2022 01:38 (one year ago) link

even giannis only had seven points in the 2nd half

lag∞n, Monday, 16 May 2022 01:38 (one year ago) link

yeah you don't feel him at all. but it was the bucks defense that really failed them. the celtics survive all of tatum's 3rd-quarter foul trouble which would be unthinkable a couple games ago.

After being a DNP-CD for Game 7, it sounds like Rob Williams will be back in action for the Heat series with 'no restrictions' https://t.co/7B9XkLrnAn

A friend of my dad, who lives in Knoxville, writes:

Grant Williams may not have been the best player at UT. Can't forget Bernard King. But to me he was the most interesting, the smartest, most valuable player I ever saw there. He was a below-the-radar recruit in Rick Barnes' first year and became the heart of the team, the post/wing guy who ran the team, delivered the clutch shots, led them to the conference championship and missed the Final Four by two points when they were upset in the NCAAs by cinderella Loyal of Chicago. He was also the two-time SEC Player of the Year. But the NBA is a different thing. I was glad to see him go to the Celtics but I worried that he didn't have the size or speed and didn't really fit the NBA one-on-on style. But, according to what he said in the postgame press conference the other night, he worked his tail off learning to shoot the 3 (never did that in college) and waited for his time -- which evidently came this week. Really happy for him, very admirable guy.

Funny, a similar thing happened to All-American Dale Ellis at UT. He was buried in the post in Don Devoe's methodical, boring offense, went to the NBA and became the all-time 3-point champ (up until that time, of course).

i'm stealing this from somewhere else but had to share--tatum is in all likelihood going to end up playing the most minutes of anyone this season, potentially by a lot:

Tatum is second in total regular season + playoff minutes (3,334) behind Mikal Bridges (3,354).

Remaining teams' leaders:

DAL: Dorian Finney-Smith (3,254)
GSW: Andrew Wiggins (2,790)
MIA: Tyler Herro (2,525)

Remaining teams' stars:

DAL: Luka Doncic (2,776)
GSW: Stephen Curry (2,682)
MIA: Jimmy Butler (2,426)

New: "Isn't it just the craziest story?"

Rose Mary Johnson & Celtics legend JoJo White were inseparable as kids growing up on the same St. Louis street.

Johnson never knew she'd one day have a grandson, Jayson Tatum, who'd become the next great Celtic.https://t.co/2xKCQ6fG2N

Ime Udoka may have saved the Celtics with a key question during a timeout after his team had committed some bad turnovers. According to a source, Udoka stepped into the huddle and said, "Will you guys stop playing like assholes?"

Aaaaaand we have our coaching moment of the year.
