The 2026 NBA playoff bracket is set. All 20 seeds are locked in, and the postseason gets started on Tuesday with the Play-In Tournament. In the East, the Raptors clinched the final top-six seed and a guaranteed playoff berth on Sunday, and the Nuggets closed out the regular season by clinching the No. 3 seed in the West over the Lakers.

The Play-In Tournament will run through Friday, and the first round of the playoffs will tip off on Saturday (April 18). The play-in will decide the No. 7 and No. 8 seeds in both conferences, but we already know four of the eight first-round matchups. In the East, the No. 3 Knicks will face the No. 6 Hawks, and the No. 4 Cavaliers will go up against the No. 5 Raptors. In the West, it's the Nuggets against the Timberwolves in the conference's 3-6 matchup, and the Lakers facing the Rockets in the 4-5.

The Pistons, Celtics, Thunder and Spurs await the winners of the Play-In Tournament. The Celtics, as the East's No. 2 seed, will face either the 76ers or the Magic in the first round; the Spurs will battle either the Suns or Trail Blazers in Victor Wembanyama's playoff debut.

Portland Trail Blazers only own their pick if it's in the lottery. So it seems quite likely they'll tank in the play-ins, which would leave Suns in 7th, and Clippers or Warriors at #8.

If they were planning to tank they had plenty of chances to do it already. The draft may be deep this year, according to widely held opinion, but once you get down below the 6th pick or thereabouts the chances of your picking the right guy who's going to play much above his scouting grade starts to be a toss up among the next dozen teams. The Blazers are already fully stocked with role player types and a few young 'project' players. They don't need to go to that well right now.

i can't tell if aphoristical is being facetious but obviously the blazers aren't going to tank the play-in, they have an exciting(ish) young team and an opportunity to be back in the offs for the first time in 6 years

been thinking about how a team as young as the spurs were able to succeed this season off their athleticism and their ability to run the floor. they only really ever knew how to play well at one speed - fast - but the knicks offense was designed to run the spurs ragged. when the knicks drove and kicked, the spurs were often out of position enough that they had to scramble back to the 3 point line and make heroic closeouts. sometimes it worked and they made a stop, and then theyd run down court trying to beat the knicks defense before it set. sometimes it didnt work and knicks feasted on open threes in the corner, or the knicks grabbed a timely offensive rebound and had an easier time scoring second chance points bc the spurs defenders out of position.

its easy to see why theyd be gassed so quickly every game late in this playoff run, and why the lack of go-to moves meant they couldnt squeeze points out of halfcourt sets and why late-game fast breaks were not as fortuitous. it didnt help that they effectively had a 6-man rotation once it became clear that kornet and kj couldnt hang.

dirkesque high post turn around jumper seems like the low hanging fruit here since hes vulnerable to physical play but can shoot over anyone

one thing about wemby is you can tell he’s an extremely modern player bcuz he does not seem to have ever thought about how to score from midrange. a shot that is wide ass open for him basically every single possession is the mid range jumper on the short roll — aka, to me, the bam adebayo shot, catching it off the bounce on PNR around the foul line and pulling right up into a jumper. wemby actually took one of these last night, almost out of default bcuz he was so open, and the shot of course looked fine mechanically but i think is just not a shot that he has practiced very much at all and certainly rarely if ever takes in games. it’s so unsexy but his game is kinda all sex and now he needs to fill it in w/ some of these more boring things that will nudge him over the hump

working out of the high post in general makes so much sense for him hed be great passing from there too could run all sorts of action defense tries to play him too close he can basically dunk from there

thing with him doing everything on defense and then being asked to be the man on offense is its just a lot, less offensive responsibility would prob be best, if harper is as good as he seems and learns how to shoot develops well etc that could solve a lot of wembys problems

one bad thing is over the course of the playoffs the spurs gave up on using wemby as the roll man because defenses were scheming against it but really what you want to do is take advantage of their scheme theyre scheming because youre doing something thats working and that necessarily will expose another flaw
